So if a warranty on a Kia in Australia is 10 years, if it breaks within 10 years, the buyer can get a full refund on the car? Thats a crazy law if it’s indeed how it works.

Yes, that's how it works.

In fact, if it were a manufacturing defect it would apply even after the warranty was over.

Pre rinsing allows total command over all reef tanks

These are skip cycle takedown reefs as well

To put back any sand, new old or a combo, we pre rinsed it.

You can do whatever you want to do with sand if you do specifically that above

Transfer no cloudy materials at all into your display, that's the core rule

Not even if it claims to clear in 48 hours: transfer none. All items that may cloud, get pre rinsed. It's the secret to controlling cycling in any reef tank per above.

If you want to add sand, add verified zero cloud sand. That's how we skip cycled all those reef tank surgeries.

Where the sand came from: new v old didn't factor for us. We worked with all types of sand anyone showed up with there.

We all pre rinsed, that's the trick.
Interesting read. I am going to give this a try over the next few days and will post my results.

SInce tank is under 2 years old, it’s still under warranty. Let’s see how c/s handles the situation and how long it takes before they get back to you.

The only thing that is long term reliable for saltwater is custom build. I have 2 after owning RS. One is warrantied for 20 years while the other is 15 years. Worth the extra expense and more importantly peace of mind and sanity! Good luck.

They already have processed sending him a G2 as replacement.

Which builders gave you 15 and 20 year warranties? Thats a great deal!

Day 3? Update:

Did another water change (2nd so far since transfer.) Haven't checked any parameters besides salinity & temp. Fish are eating fine. Have not got a shipping confirmation on the new tank from RS yet.

My understanding is the front glass overhanging doesn't matter much, if at all. The major factor is the water pressure pushing out on the front glass which is not effected by the front glass being supported by the stand or not.
Not sure I agree with this.....water pressure is same on the back glass....and no back glass failures that I know off.......

Yes, forgot to mention that. Lights have been significantly reduced and mostly blues. I upped the white temporarily for the pics

Are you putting it back together in the red sea tank they're sending you?

Now is the time to run dental surgery on the rocks that have a little bit of encroaching green brush algae

Those rocks are like teeth, the gums are the corals

Lift out the rocks with algae set on the counter

Use a sharp knife with precision to debride scrape and twist out the algae using applied scoring by force, like you're coring out a cavity in a big tooth to be able to clean algae off just those anchor sections

Make use of the availability of all surfaces to target destroy algae while everything sits in the tote

Once a given area is knife debrided/rasped/ and rinsed out using old tank water, that spot will be totally algae free

But take the cleaned section of rock still outside of the tank, in the air, and apply peroxide to the cleaned areas and let them sit a while before rinsing off in old tank water. Then set the rocks back

So it's remove rock, knife detail twist/jab/ scrape core area and rinse free any algae

Then place peroxide on the clean sections let sit a few mins = burning invisible cells

Then rinse off really well and put back in tank those rocks are treated and hopefully will stay free

This saves you having to mess with water parameters to slow starve algae, it saves risk of fish disease by buying different grazers to try and eat it. Reactive purchases made at the pet store in response to algae / buying snails and crabs/ can easily import disease and wipe out fish, this uses your tote time to up the dentistry quality of your reef teeth

So what you are saying is... G2 hasn't been around long enough to leak...

Anders Holm Wow GIF

Oh well.....

I certainly can see not wanting to support a company that's had a track record like this... Not to mention keeping your floors dry!!

I guess if they changed the stand for the g2 so the front glass is better supported maybe they will fare better than the v3 even though the seam guards and all are the same.

For those of us that already have red sea g2s.... maybe we have a chance :grimacing-face: :grimacing-face:

Time will tell and then we will all know....

In the meantime I'm sure going to keep an eye on my seams!

That’s my plan at the moment. It’s supposedly better build quality but I’ll inspect when it arrives.

I planned on tackling the algae prior to setting up the new tank. This is helpful

It's a shame to see red sea tanks go to crap. I bought a used one probably 7 years ago, its a 32 all in one. The two sides and front glass are all one panel, they curved the glass on them. That tank is rock solid.

This link was referenced earlier in the thread, someone mentioned this tank was not a G2 but a G1V3.

Either way, not sure what the resale value on a new G2 are or where I’d even sell the replacement if I wanted to

Waterbox had the same overhang but they don't seem to just split at a constant rate. I doubt the overhanging glass was the issue.

No, the waterbox doors aren’t flush with the front panel. The front panel is held by the stand and then the doors stick out a bit. Red Sea is the only tank I’m aware of that leaves the front panel literally hanging.

Unfortunately the overflow on the G2 is still complete garbage. I’m convinced it’s not the crappy diaphragm valve thing they made, but just a very poor overflow/drain design.

I got my Waterbox 40-gallon AIO in December 2018, and three of my panels are not supported by the stand. The only panel supported is the back one. Looks like this design has changed over the years.

Update: Red Sea has informed me they will be sending me a new Reefer 250 G2+
For clarity, tank and stand?

If you could on your old stand, once you get the tank off, see if the tank bottom was fully supported by the stand. Take something straight that does not deflect, long level if you have one, and place it across at various points. See if it's touching at all points, no gaps. Especially across the front.

Curious if it's not, causing the tank bottom to deflect and cause the sepertion that is being seen on these tanks.

Thank you

Yeah it seems that there’s variance with not only different iterations, but also tank sizes. Had no idea there would be that much variety in their line.
