Can't be trusted don't care what Red Sea says
Yeah this one isnt a G2. Even in the YouTube comments he cussed someone out for informing everyone it’s not a G2.

Black valve and single return gives it away. Along with the statement that it’s 4 years old, which G2 has only been around for 2.

These are the upgrades per red seas email:

  • Thicker fortified glass
  • Seam protectors on internal seams
  • Fortified plywood stands with adjustable feet
  • Improved water management system
  • Inclusion of our new ReefATO+
  • ReefMat-ready (No idea what this is)

I have a XL300 G1 and I cut this 1 1/2 inch plywood to place under tank. I believe the issue is the front glass not being supported by stand. Somehow it’s still holding on and crossing my fingers it holds forever. I am very paranoid though.
That is a big issue. The front panel is basically forever in free fall only being held up by that seam. The G2 models they put support there for 5 foot tanks and larger, which I think is a mistake as they should have made all tanks, even smaller ones, with that lip support.

Another huge issue was the span of some cabinets. It sagged/bowed in the middle. I’m not sure if the 250 is affected by this, but they added metal support struts on the 4 foot and larger cabinets. I’ve seen some pics of tanks with that front very noticeably sagging down.

Maybe ask if they can provide one?

I never noticed any sagging in my current stand but will keep that in mind. I may end up reinforcing the new stand on my own depending on how it looks once assembled

So what you are saying is... G2 hasn't been around long enough to leak...

Thats a G1. That’s the one I was referencing about “V3 with G2 features”. It’s actually in the preview of the thread as you quoted it.

I haven’t seen a G2 failure (yet .. knock on wood lol).

Prepare Get Ready GIF by Xbox

Reinforce that stand! (I would rather sell it and buy a custom or innovative marine tank tho)

IDK about that one but they had G2 before the red pipes, probably just minor changes and marketing.

All G2s come with dual returns (sump versions, not AIOs) and red piping from the very beginning. It’s something they showcased when they introduced it at trade shows.

They were already selling tanks with the reinforced armored crap, thicker glass, and yada yada

Ya they changed some pipes to trick people that they had new stuff (but they had already been selling it). Minor changes.

They had some of the features on some V3 models, but not the most important ones, like the lip support to actually hold the front glass up.

I just wanna say I absolutely hate their naming system, very confusing.
@buruskeee You might be right that there aren't any g2 failures yet, but we've seen a lot of g1 failures around 3-4 years and g2 has only been out for 2, right?
Yep. So we’ll see how they hold up. It’s my belief the stands were a huge contributor, and they did tons to beef up the really pathetic stand designs. So guess we’ll check back in around 18 months from now.

Waterbox had the same overhang but they don't seem to just split at a constant rate. I doubt the overhanging glass was the issue.

People have been throwing around rumors about the silicone, that would be my guess, but I still think the overhang was a contributing factor.

It's good they updated because I had a G1 and it was literal trash. The overflow was bulky ugly crap, the "red sea valve" was horrible, cheap stand, no leveling feet even, it shouldn't surprise anyone that the G1's fall apart when they didn't seem to take much care in any part of the product to begin with.

I bought it second hand and resold it... I realized it was just a hyped up turd (many things are in this hobby though). The new ones do look like what the G1 should have been from the beginning (at least from photos/description).
