Encrusting corals would be pretty cool. Acan echinata, favia, favites, any number of montiporas. Could look really neat.

Short answer…..Yes. When mine run out of rock, they grow on the bottom.

I run the slurry without bacteria about once a month. Nitrates were <1 until I went no water change for 3 weeks
