Looks like the Neptune Trident Nitrate/Phosphate tester is a real thing. Release date in May or June. Appears to be stand alone from the current Trident which is both a blessing and a curse. Good for those who already have a Trident as it doesn't make them obsolete or for those not concerned about Ca/Mg/Alk like a fish only system but bad for those looking to have it all as it requires buying 2 Trident units.

Neptune is in a tough spot though. Current Apex users will be pleased that it is another bolt on module but new users will be irritated that they need to spend double to get all 5 tests automated.

Not sure what is required for the Hydros Maven to be used. Is it stand alone or does the Hydros stuff need a central hub like the Apex?

Trident has had it's share of negative reviews regarding test results but it was also the first to market. Remains to be seen what the Maven is capable of.

Personally I would be more interested in the nitrate/phosphate, my alk/ca/mg are pretty stable. But if it costs $1000+ to get in on this, it's not worth it to me.

It will all depend on the price for me.

i've seen less negative reviews or complaints from the hydros stuff than neptune, tbh. i believe neptune is still widely used and praised just because it was one of the first to do it.

personally i don't own either, although i wish i could justify paying the amount for either. would make reef keeping much easier for me with automated testing/dosing.

maven is allegedly going to be $1k+, which is ridiculous to me considering you can test manually yourself within <20-25min.

Yea these prices are ridiculous. I bought my apex amd trident off someone that was giving up on the hobby for $400. If it wasn't for that i wouldnt own one.

Neptune is the company, apex is their controller, trident is their auto tester that test for alk, calc, mag for you.
Remember, @Thuan checks her tank water by taste test.

If I could get a deal like that I might jump on the bandwagon. Otherwise it's Hanna and salifert and a few minutes of my time.

I have been using a Trident on my main system now for 3 months. It has helped me dial in kalk/All-for-Reef dosing to maintain stable Ca, Mg and Alk levels more easily than hand testing could. I do NOT use it to automate dosing of those to the tank yet. I also appreciate being able to see those specific params daily and watch the trends of the tank. Absolutely not a requirement but a convenience for me.

As I mentioned last night, I do not test enough for NO3/PO4. Depending on cost and availability the Trident NP might be of value to me as I already have the other components.

Or it could just become something additional to obsess over.
