From memory, pH is mostly a formula of alk, salinity, temp, and dissolved co2.So could the brand of salt affect the pH?
I just got through testing the AF sea salt.
At 36ppt (I run there to help with pH in my tanks, it helps keep it above 8.0)
Reef crystals would test 8.0-8.2 the AF salt test is almost 8.6
AF sea salt
8.6dkh I run about 8.6
Calcium 400 I run 440-450
Magnesium 1380 I like mine closer to 1500 but I have to dose to keep it there anyways
Potassium 400 I just started testing mine and it was 380 now 390 since I started dosing a few weeks ago.
I had thought mag on RSCP was 1450 for some reason. Its 1390, At 36pt it would be tipping 1420, higher claimed K and CA than AF, at least claimed on the package but close enough.Probably cost. The af reef salt is higher in mag and cal and other things for a reef than the sea salt. By the time you make up for it dosing it's a wash at best
