any downfall into just using the marco mortar and just waiting for the algae to eventually cover it? I guess it just looks bad for a while

or do they make the NSA powder also in purple?

Depends on the nutrients. My rock colors up within a couple of weeks to a month.
Sorry for the bad pictures...

February 12th - pure white

January 3rd - Look at top middle white rock - just added brand new made from cement and aragonite sand
image.jpg

February 23rd - just over a week after adding RR Pink Cadillac rock in same location (see how much the flat rock already colored up)

watching this aquascape video just makes me realize how difficult its gonna be with live rock since I will have to dip it to not lose things.
You don't have to dip it often... like every 15 to 20 mins. It just needs to stay moist.

Yes sir, love my roubo! It's the perfect hand tool bench as far as I'm concerned. How has the ash worked out, not too hard? I went with a soft wood to avoid marring my work pieces, but the ash looks incredible. My saw bench is actually ash, it's worked great in that application.

Jealous of the BC kit, I'm sure it's worth it.
It is Definitely the most capable bench for hand tool woodworkers I know of.

In the planning stages I thought I might want a work holding device on the back side as well. I did not get too fancy with it and I'm glad I didn't. Honestly, I want for nothing with it, other than a clean top. I habitually leave the right side of my bench loaded with tools I'm not using.

The ash in my opinion is perfect. I work primarily with hardwood in the 1000 plus rating so they are at least equal hardness.

It's been about 3 years since the last time I flattened it. I can still take a full length shaving with a number 4 smoother. I Love this bench.

Did you build it in the Wood whisperer guild?

whats the price like on t5's vs leds, obviously you have to replace bulbs and such but?
More important question, What's the coverage and coral growth like with t5 and LED, versus LED alone..

I run LED alone on my 8 ft tank and I am actively planning a Frankenstein in order to add four bulbs to each side.

I would need 8 led fixtures to cover the same area and would still have too much shading.

I think you may be overthinking it. .

Live rock doesn't need to stay dripping wet. Think of the structure like a sponge. The very outer crust may dry out a bit but the rock is holding most of the water.

Imho, if you kill off 1/10th of the live stuff doing this, it's still a hundred percent worth it.

I did not, though I do have a set of his plans for a Maloof rocker laying around somewhere that I hope to eventually use. The saw bench plans are from "Wood by Wright" and both of my Roubo's are generic based on YouTube videos.

A clean top? Pretty sure that's just a myth...

If you need a holding device near the back, I highly highly recommend Gramercy hold fasts. They will work anywhere you're willing to drill a dog hole. I use them more than either vise I think.

It's a gorgeous bench, you've got skill!
