I have someone here that lives in Franklin and told me:

Most places in Franklin are fine. We did lose cell phone service, Internet, and some places power. We are pretty much closed off from the outside world. I-40 a majer interstate is closed down. Stores are running out of food.

I still get mail, packages delivered, even Internet and cell phone service is back

My best wishes if that is the situation. Maybe he fell behind on things and then had disaster strike. I wouldn’t be surprised if a month from now I get a random message from him and things pick back up where we left off

I hope everything is ok, a par meter is the least of concerns if your home is flooded or destroyed

Just wish I had an update
If he's in the township of Franklin, roads are open. But, if he lives on the other side of a creek or in a valley, even just minutes from town, he could be in bad shape.

I wish that was the case for my sister's family. I really miss talking to her every day. I hope things start moving quicker for you, and everyone in that area.

like to be blown out of your seat with 5 watts?

How about 1 watt

Yes those are three exponential horns that make up the back wall...

What does that have to do with the par meter?

I filled out a request with the Red Cross reunification team - seems they help confirm the safety of friends and family

Filled out the form, said he is a friend, and put in my contact info and his info I have - name, address, age, etc

It says if they have info they will contact me in 72 hours.

He was always very friendly with me and I hope everything is ok for him and his family. I was not aware he was in the path of Helene and now I feel strong concern. I was fine with delays on the par meter as I didn’t need it and we were in communication, but when I lost contact that’s when I thought something must have happened. If I get any updates from Red Cross I’ll post them here.

That sucks.
Same here. Club member borrowed mine, 6 months later got it back. He even told me what he did was wrong.
He asked for it again. Me being so freaking kind, Lent it again. Been 4 months. I'm going to message him right now.

Sucks being kind sometimes....

I have tried this and come into some weird outcomes

ALL Names changed for privacy! Fake names ahead

When I sold the items I asked for a name and address to ship to, they told me their name was JOHN DOE

when I was paid in PayPal it came from JOHN ROBERTSON

I didn’t think twice, figured PayPal is using old info, person got married, changed last name for whatever reason, didn’t think much of it

Mailed items to JOHN DOE

now that I’m digging, I found in PayPal I can find some info on him and his PayPal email is something like J.ROBERTSON@gmail

So that makes me think at one point in time the name was JOHN ROBERTSON but for whatever reason they had me ship to JOHN DOE. maybe that’s the current name

When I search both JOHN DOE or JOHN ROBERTSON + his town + his state, I find…nothing

I have the address and found the county clerk website with up to date parcel records and the house is owned by a woman who’s name is completely different and doesn’t have DOE or ROBERTSON in the name.

From what he says he has a kid, and I thought ok I know of someone with a kid, and him and his wife live in the basement of the mother in laws house. So maybe it’s a situation like that.

But regardless I can’t find a phone number and I am not sure what the current last name is, but I suspect it’s DOE as that’s what he wanted his package addressed to, unless he gave me a pseudonym to try and hid the real last name, which is what’s in use by PayPal currently and in the gmail address connected to PayPal

I have emailed this J.ROBERTSON gmail address 3x and never received a reply

Edit: found an obituary does family member and he’s listed as surviving family as JOHN DOE ROBERTSON

I-40 isn't really an issue with Franklin unless you're trying to visit from TN and even then, it just means we are adding an hour to the trip to take an alternate route.

Here's the GOVT update on Franklin:

*********************************************************

Hurricane Helene Recovery Information

Franklin, North Carolina

Overview

Tuesday, October 15 Update

All Major Roads in Franklin are open.
Franklin's major mobile providers report that service has been fully restored.
Power
- Duke Energy has restored all storm-related power outages in the Franklin area.
Duke Energy has developed a special website to provide the latest information and resources for impacted customers in western North Carolina. Click or Tap Here to View »
Optimum (Cable TV / Internet) is reporting that service has been restored to all Franklin customers.
Frontier reports its internet services are fully functional.
SHOPPING
- Grocery stores are seeing some items sellout quickly with limited supplies of other items. You will find that there are purchase limits on many staple goods in some grocery retailers as well (i.e. limit 2, etc.).
Several retailers are not taking personal checks or offering cash back with debit cards.
*********************************************************

From someone local to the area, Franklin faired very well compared to the rest of our area. Unfortunately, their stores/gas stations/restaurants are getting hammered because areas this direction were harder hit and those resources are slower to open/recover. I know dozens of families who traveled to that area to get supplies and hot food over the last 2 weeks because it's not been available here.

Hopefully you'll hear from him soon and all is good with him and his family and he gets your PAR meter back in the mail to you.

Allen in NC :)

That’s great to hear.

Maybe he’s lending a hand and helping fellow NCers. I know when devastation like this hits, neighbors who were hit, but able to get back up quicker, can’t do anything but help others in need.

Yeah, that would be nice. I do love hearing resolutions to problems. I hope that he's OK, and that it's just a matter of communication issues, ie: no cell service or the like.

I know it sucks, because I had a real problem with feeling guilty about saying "no". However, I've learned to try and dismiss guilt from saying no. I've learned to people please on my terms. It's saved me so much grief.

What does that have to do with the par meter?
Some of us got off topic for a few moments it’s ok

Actually it is not OK given the reason they posted. This is maybe the 2nd or 3rd attempt in 24 hours :face-with-rolling-eyes:

RedReefer: I suspect if you joined organically would have seen that the OP himself initiated the (fun) tangent and that it is an interest of both of ours, as well as a few others that cross paths often and wound up in this thread.

That said - I am flattered that you are following me. It gives me a nice warm fuzzy feeling :)

Happy Reefing!

That area was one of the worst affected places in NC after Helene went through there. My family lives 20 miles north of Franklin, and I still haven't heard directly from them...
That is unfortunate - and if that is the case he likely has far greater concerns than returning a PAR meter.

I wish both he, your family and everyone affected well. I am sure that it is going to take a long time to get back to normal and maybe for some that is never.

A member posted a build thread and in that thread I offered a sump for sale. They messaged with me, wanted it, sent me the money, and I mailed them the sump. I rate the transaction A+. Both parties happy and good communication

We started talking and they were friendly and asking questions about their build and I was offering advice and help

Through convo they mentioned they need a skimmer. I had a spare skimmer for their size tank, I offered it for sale, they wanted it, they paid me. So far this dude seems legit

He has lighting questions. I told him he needs par readings, and out of kindness and due to two successful payments and weeks of dms, I offered to include my par meter in the package with the skimmer I was shipping and said he could borrow it for a few week and mail it back when he’s got the readings. He happily agreed.

Then he started saying he needs to wait for his sister to loan him a laptop to take readings because he didn’t have one. I was blown off week after week and was trying to be patient but felt like excuses sometimes seemed repetitive

Then he disappears from forum for weeks and no messages answered. He finally came back and said he would send it back that week and he never did.

I want my par meter back. I don’t think he’s a scammer I think he has a busy life and mentioned kids going through potty training, work having long hours, and the build going slow due to life.

I want my par meter back and he’s not answering Gmail emails, forum messages, and I even sent a PayPal invoice for the meter with a note saying please send it back or pay for it; and I have no response.

Anyone in or near Franklin, NC? Get my par meter in a box mailed back to me, I’ll pay the sh, and I’ll send you a reward - PayPal cash or if you want to split sh, I’ll send you a Cynarina. That’s right. A 250-300$ coral if you want it.

Someone help me please. I have the address and name. Seems like a nice guy who just got busy and put me on the way way back burner. This was sent in June. It’s been long enough.
I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I live in Franklin, and I'm surprised to hear that someone else from these boards lives here as well. Not only because it's a small mountain town, but the nearest decent LFS is almost two hours away.
If this person lives close to town, they probably have internet and cell service, but just a few minutes outside, it’s still pretty unreliable.
If there’s anything I can do to help, just let me know.

Are you saying that the mental gymnastics that your mind has done, made you already forget that you borrowed his par meter?

Just give it back dude!

what is doxing??
Google is your friend ;) My vocabulary has increased 10 fold in the time I've been on this site. I look up words I haven't heard before so I know what they mean. I have an 8th grade education so I'm looking up a lot of words :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

Lol. I’ve never used a par meter for my tank. I let my corals tell me if they’re unhappy.
just trying to help out a fellow reefer that was scammed here. Living in a small town it shouldn’t be too hard to find someone.
