Yeah, my wife and I have 2 different beliefs here. I'll go 250 to 500. She wants 100 to 150. As she is not in the community, I have a feeling I'll have some explaining to do. And a fair amount of begging.
Anything more than the 120, I consult with the Warden lol. Aka the wife.

Life hack: NEVER get a recept...EVER.
I turned 50 Tuesday and my wife wanted to buy me something at the LFS. I found a deal on some Wyoming White Clowns...Mated at that, a beautiful BTA and the rock it was on. Went to the counter, rang it up and the guy looks at me and said "You don't get receipts right?" I froze...Wifey looked at me and just shook her head.

nothing in my tank was over $60...and that was for a 7 head neon green candy cane...2 yrs later i've lost count of the heads (well over 50)...if I knew it grew like that I would have gotten the 2 head for $25...

I think the most I have spent is ~$400 for my gem tang

I'm not sure I'd be willing to go higher unless it was something super special/rare like a Spotted Drum

Starting a home reef is expensive. But after the tank is up and the cycling is complete, this is where the money pit can begin to deepen. Of course, if you play your cards right, you can snag some awesome stuff for cheap. But is there one thing that you would be willing to put the nail in your financial coffin for?

How much are you willing to spend on a single piece of livestock? (I.e., Fish, Coral, Inverts, etc.)

And what is the most you've ever spent? Let's discuss it!

I’ve spent $500 to $1200 on holy grail torches plenty of times, the most I’ve spent on a single coral was last month at RAP New Jersey show i bought a mother Godzilla bounce mushroom for $2k, it’s got 9 babies that i didn’t have to pay any extra for

My top I spent on any single livestock is $180. I bought 2 bellus angles so that bill was $360 and when they got uronema I scrambled to get meds. They are doing great in my display now.

For the rest of my stocking list I'm hoping it stays south of $100 for any 1 item.

Depends on a couple of things for me. Back when I had multiple big tanks, I was a sucker for unique corals. I think the most I ever spent on a single coral was $800 for a huge Torch. If I think I can keep it alive, and I'm feeling impulsive enough...

for me it really depends
“name brand” to me means nothing unless i like it, and i think if something is fast growing but still high priced then thats weird
but i like the oddballs and fun to look at stuff
i mean i spent $150 on five lbs of aussie rock just too look at what it brings with it lol

I've responded to the poll but I'm kind of triggered by it tbh :D.

Demand drives up prices and that demand is usually driven by hype. Some of the coolest and most unusual corals are always in the bargain bin. Someone posted a lepto above, there are heaps of amazing and unusual maze type corals and pectinia. Also, IMO, a healthy, well coloured Scopas is much prettier than a yellow tang.

It's not that I wont pay for high-priced livestock, but I do ask myself, is it the lure of something desirable? Or do I actually really like it for what it is?

I posted two orange lepto above in this thread. I got them for 6$ each and the frag plugs were almost completely covered

One of the best finds I’ve ever had
