Any ideas what’s up with this acan? It’s always had this notch that it won’t grow over. Is it rock boring algae? Does anything eat acans?
Many things can pick at acans especially if it’s damaged.

I have first hand seen the following eat healthy acans

Filefish
Cardinal fish

Eat damaged spots on acans
Hermit crabs
Emerald crabs
Shrimp
Asterina starfish

The acan arrived like that? Or the spot developed?

If that skeletal ridge is overgrowth and nothing is attached you can file it down or snap it lower so the mantle can extend over it easier. Feeding regularly is needed also got new growth. Acans can eat a lot. Mine often eat Back to back meals in a feeding session. Soaking meals in aminos is supposed to help with regrowth.

Can you post a white light pic of that acan?

According to my wife weird is my tanks middle name
The most my wife has done was complain the tank wasn’t colorful enough or ask about cost of coral, which I bend the truth on.

Caught one yesterday ripping up one of mine yesterday. Probably going to lose it
I’ve got a few small hermits. If they do naughty things I put them in the back AIO chambers.
