Hermit crabs eat acans. Little jerks love them

Sometimes they just grow like that. If the rest looks healthy, and it does, I wouldn’t worry.

Many things can pick at acans especially if it’s damaged.

I have first hand seen the following eat healthy acans

Filefish
Cardinal fish

Eat damaged spots on acans
Hermit crabs
Emerald crabs
Shrimp
Asterina starfish

The acan arrived like that? Or the spot developed?

If that skeletal ridge is overgrowth and nothing is attached you can file it down or snap it lower so the mantle can extend over it easier. Feeding regularly is needed also got new growth. Acans can eat a lot. Mine often eat Back to back meals in a feeding session. Soaking meals in aminos is supposed to help with regrowth.
