Back to actual coral….these are 3 that I’ve gotten in 3 different SBB sales.

Fun story:
Feeding my fish I found my lineatus (currently living in sump) in the return chamber. I quickly turned things off, and had to disconnect my soft plumbing to remove the pump to get him out… thankfully while I was getting in there- he jumped back to safety. I was elated! I shored up how he got into the return and found myself fortunate and turned back on my return- yep without putting the soft plumbing back. Found it immediately but not before tripping the gfci and spilling a couple gallons….doh- been a fun last 3hrs

So, mid to late 2023, life was busy and the tanks got neglected. Lost a few corals and most took a hit but recovered. One coral recovery that has been interesting, a green fungia plate.
It was almost completely dead, except for the mouth near the top. The rest was skeleton covered in algae. Unfortunately I don't have pics of every stage.
This is it, after starting to recover. Some regrowth in random areas on the dead skeleton.
Because algae seemed to be uncontrollably rampant, I ended up cutting off the small regrowth areas and gluing to frag plugs. They all have been growing and doing great!
It's kind of strange and remarkable. Instead of just growing a new plate off the skeleton, they seem to be basing out, more like an acro. Curious to see how much growth encrusts onto the plug and what will grow from there?
This is the original plate now, that almost died.
Am very happy it has recovered but also bummed, as I did have a different fungia plate that did die. It had individual stalks that would grow plates and fall off or I would break off when they got to be about the size of a dime and a new plate would regrow on top of that stalk. I was hoping the fragged ones would break off the same, but they are growing very solid and won't pop off. Maybe the encrusting plugs will evolve differently.
