Maybe.
I tried a skimmer..it just removed too much in my case. I have no problems with keeping up with calcium with red sea calcium. My philosophy is Keep it simple stupid and go from there. If I need to add something in the future I will. I wonder though how many people have ran a skimmer from the start and now they can't take it off. Where as to if they didn't they might not have ever needed it. I have a reef octo 2000 external bad A skimmer..but I've never needed to hook it up.
The only tank I run a skimmer on is a 75 with no sump.

i don't even know if i could run a skimmer if i wanted to, there is about 6" of space between the bottom of the stand and the top of the sump haha, it's super difficult to even get my arm in there

Hang On Back is always an option if you need a skimmer.

@billyocean I think you’re right about the violet. Reduced the non blues and bumped the violet slightly. It seems like the corals are definitely showing a + reaction.

Light ramps are for the owner of the tank...the corals dont care
While I agree with this.... if the goal is to replicate the ocean and nature.... nature does ramp up and down. They call it sunrise and sun set.

Edit: many reports for moonlight and spawning events too... even with home aquariums that use a moon setting. Not sure on if verifiable data.

I know there's certain times corals spawn like clockwork...whether the moon is visible or not. I think it's more of a tidal thing at a certain time

How high is your violet
Not super high. I’ve got the next nine days off. So I’ll be able to play around and see what happens by bumping it slowly. The ReeFi is very powerful so I’m going a bit slowly. Kasrift is lending me his PAR meter. It should be here soon. And whatever I did with larger tank for flow is going well. Here’s screen shots of the ReeFi

I got the IM novo skimmer for my little IM 14g middle section. It took about 2-3 weeks to break in and reduce the air bubbles but it stripped all of my phosphates down too low I believe. I took it out. Last water test NO3 30 and PO4 0. I am usually about .08 PO4 and NO3 20. It also just overflows when I turn the return off and if Im working in the tank, the bubbles get crazy and it looks terrible in there for several hours. Also, my algae problems have seemingly become worse since adding it. Its off for now, don't think it will go back on anytime soon. I pulled the UV out awhile ago to. I've got a tiny refugium in the back but I don't believe it does anything productive. I don't see any copepods there and it doesn't seem to affect my nutrients.

Now its usually just filter floss and some carbon which I added because my tank is so shroom heavy. Im doing the fluconazole treatment right now though so the carbon is out. If I don't see any issues arise, ill probably just leave the carbon out too.

@billyocean is wise on this I believe. Way too many people using way more equipment than they need, which can make things a lot harder to control long term.

Just to cure my interests, is the lime really lime or is it more green? Also can you crank it up and snap a before and after pic of it's not too much trouble?

Sure here’s with the lime and other non “blues” at 0%. Mind you this is with orange filter

Here’s with the lime tampered up
IMG_7460.jpeg

It’s more like white in effect

Thanks, yes I believe what I read was the opinion lime gave a better look than the daylight 10k-12k white.

These viparspectra just wash everything out with the whites. Maybe one day I'll mod them or upgrade for more pleasing viewing.

Yeah I do like the look better than standard white. I’m still experimenting and seeing what makes the corals happiest. This last adjustment was the best overall response I’ve gotten so far.

This is one of the reasons I got a par meter. Even after the initial setup we still tweak the lights till we and the corals are satisfied.
