Hello,
I am trying to manage my nitrates better and want to start a HOB refugium or some sort of equipment to help me manage them I am also shopping for a HOB skimmer as well. I have a HOB Tidal right now running with carbon and aquavitro nitrate pad. However I want something for the long run. My question is can I make my Tidal into a refugium while having carbon and the regular Tidal stuff in it? If not should I just buy another Tidal filter which is not preferred. Looking for recommendations on skimmers as well.

There was a YouTube video I saw where someone had turned that filter into a refugium.

My 2 cents. The refugium should be removing the nitrate when you manually remove algae so you won't need the nitrate remover as that might starve the macro algae.

I imagine in theory you could do the carbon if you had the space for it in the filter? May find that it will just get in the way or get clogged with algae so not really work like it should unless you are really on top of cleaning the bag it's in all the time.

TL.DR. Yes but probably not ideal to run the carbon in the same small space.
