Hey guys,

So I have a Red Sea reefer 250 V3A. When I look closely along the bottom and sides of the silicone, I can clearly see a lighter line around the middle to the inner edge. see image below I have attached

Really worried as cannot have this tank split right now. It is to be noted it's consistent around nearly all the sides and bottoms and i am VERY careful with glass cleaning near silicone. Only ever use plastic for algae anywhere near the silicone

Could it just be where the armoured joints join to the other armoured joints and the other colour where the actual real glass binds to the other panel with silicone?

I've had it for just over 2 years...

What do you guys think?

Thanks very much!

That would be my guess...

Did you buy it new? (if so, call Red Sea tomorrow and at least alert them)

Are there similar lighter areas along the bottom right, too?

As a fellow Red Sea Seem Failure club member, I know your anxiety...

When you are looking at the "light" area, is it showing straight lines all around or is the light area uneven (think deformed). If it was failing I would expect it to be uneven vs straight lines, the latter more likely a light anomaly or construction marking than a flaw.

I am not a RS tank owner because I determined that there was no time in my schedule to deal with a seam failure. I hope yours doesn't depart before you have a replacement ready.

Yeah it seems to be uneven, not straight a bit almost curved and non uniform so i don't know what to think... Thanks for your reply

Well, what will make ya sleep better at night? A new tank or a Red Sea tank with a silicone defect, know their history??
Yeah this is why I'm so scared. Trouble is not many good tanks are 250 at the moment which is the limit for my 2nd story room. NYOS and waterbox look good but slightly too big. Waterbox and cade harder to come by in the UK :(

Yep, brand new! Haven't moved and in perfect condition - no damage to armoured joints even!
There seems to be those strange lights all along and marks etc. I messaged red sea to see what they think
If it was just a seam failure surprised would be on all edges. But if joining from pane to pane under the armoured joint joining why so uneven! so scary! if it leaks i am basically absolutely destroyed by whom I rent from, haha.

If you are renting I would really consider tearing this down. The damage that even 20 gallons of salt water can do to a home is astonishing. Freshwater is bad enough but salt just adds…salt to the wound.

Do you also rent the first floor? Is there a basement?

If you only rent the 2nd floor I would only do nano tanks tbh.

Do you have insurance?
Do you have a kiddie pool ready?
Can you set up a video feed so we can watch?

Still hoping it doesn't ruin your apartment. Oh, and galoshes? ;)

No custom tank makers near you? I went custom and it was a lot cheaper than Red Sea, ha!

If you have anyone below you, you may ruin your neighbors stuff too.

Contact Red Sea, maybe they will send you the new version for free?

And then sell it and buy a real tank!

I mean. Have you actually seen progression of faliure or are you just noticing this? Take photos for the next few months of the areas in question and see if there’s change over time.

This won't last months. It MIGHT have weeks. But likely days. Once it starts showing signs it is usually a quick failure.

One vote for doomed
That is just the armored "joint" over the seam. No worries.

I think we could get a pool on the life span of this tank

Hour/ day /minute wagers

And a live camera feed to provide hours of entertainment, or mabe just a few minutes perhaps?

We see weekly RS failure threads. Yet we see 2 new RS build threads a day. How does this keep happening? How do people keep buying them?

I have a hunch that the original RS Design team were let go after these problems first started and what is weird is that I heard they all got hired by Boeing? I wonder if that's true?
