Tickets to Kona in December booked!!! Cirrhilabrus jordani and Macropharyngodon geoffroyi, here I come! Might bring a few Hawaiian yellows back to give out for favors :) Catching a fish in the wild isn't that hard, right? Right?

Well I never saw either of those wrasse (I did see the far superior Anampses chrysocephalus) though I did see some yellow tangs. So yeah should be simple

Do you scuba? You have time to learn.

YES! I usually just put on swimming goggle and go swimming, but I sometimes use the snorkel, too. I can't swim down very far. Might make it hard to catch fish, hmm.

I keep seeing blips in my suggested google.feed about the Hawaiian fishery opening again. Heard anything about that?

I have not, but I understand you are able to take fish for personal aquarium use and bring them home as long as there are no import restrictions at your destination and if TSA + airline play nice. There are restrictions on methods for catching. I think it's basically a 3ft hand net or fishing line.

I was hoping to find a comically long one

The Yellows I saw in Kona were in super rough, super rocky reef.

However, there were plenty of Convict Tangs and a decent number of Achilles that I could have brought home. Only saw the 1 Cleaner Wrasses and several different varieties of Coris and Surge Wrasse.

Bad ears. Can't, unfortunately :-(
My little sis had an operation that they put tiny tubes in her ears so she could equalize her ears as a child.
I got a drill bit and some 3/16 airline... We could give it a try... :thinking-face:

An achilles will fit in a TSA approved container for just one little flight, right?

Ok, how about getting an inch thick 3 ft polished acrylic rod and attaching a clear net at the end. They'll never see it coming!
Against regulations. Can only be 3' total including the net.
