I will start mine off tomorrow with ROE, live baby brine, PacPods, and I have some nylon sponges in the back of my 40 harboring a bunch of amphipods. They might get a dunk. Will try to progress to TDO pellets too
I would try to feed with Rotifers if possible - My Tamarins don’t normally feed on my larger frozen mix but they did this time and all I really added was rotifers. My pencils were also more active during feedings with the rotifers added.

If you’re able to I recommend observation first and then put under medications when needed to :)
These are hardy but if possible I would avoid copper altogether with them, they are alright at lower levels but higher levels when wanted to be dosed that way they can be sensitive to.
I will probably forego copper. Was thinking of using chloroquine phosphate, but that's also tricky.

Big issue is the use of sand and real live rock in the QT. I think it helps the well-being of sand sleeping wrasses, so I prefer to have plenty kf sand for them. Doesn't do well for copper and chloroquine, though.

Live rotifers or freeze dried/refrigerated (e.g., Reef Nutrition RotiFeast)?

Honestly, these guys tend to be more prone to internal parasites than they are any other disease IME.
Get him feeding in a tank with live rock and sand and then soak the food in prazi. That seems to be the best way to tackle internals.

I have metro/focus/kanaplex on hand as well. Will order some prazi. How long do you keep them in observation usually?

If he isn’t feeding then at a minimum until they feed.
However if they feed on day one, I tend to prefer observation for a minimum of a week if not 2-3 to see any clear signs of illness. Internal parasites will show through feeding but getting skinnier, ich/flukes can be seen through scratching or “flashing” against rocks and sand and so on.

Sounds good. 2-3 weeks will put him right on time for the new 4ft tank, going in with all the others. I still want to get a severnsi, but this guy's is a real heart melter, so will be very happy if he makes it!

Well, why not get a severnsi and add them together?!

They really are heartmelters, I find they’re just adorable when they’re checking everything out. And then they become extremely friendly and come right up to you when feeding. I’m 90% sure I can hand feed half of my wrasses and I would if my Foxfaces didn’t also love to be hand fed :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

I've been on the lookout for a severnsi (small or female) for a while. My friend with the distributor checks weekly and they had a male severnsi and a "female severnsi" this week. My friend just didn't realize I hadn't set up my QT tank yet and went ahead and picked up the *male splendens*. Hence the hastily put together bucket. My Evo-to-be-QT is mid-cleanup and still has 2 inches of old sand I started rinsing and stirring up today.

Will do a few rinses tomorrow and get the pumps running, check for pH and ammonia and see if it can be ready within a day or so. Ill throw in live rock rubble and Fiji Mud and hope for the best.

Better not be jinxing myself. We'll see what I find at the office tomorrow...

If he survives he’ll be a stunning new fish :)

What is the morning report?
So far:
1. Shouldn't have drank that glass of water before bed.
2. Where's my coffee!?
3. Need to take the MIL and kids to Children's Museum before getting to the office and to the really important tasks of the day: checking on new fish.

Who's that?

Oh, it's you!

Coloring up a bit today. I tried baby brine shrimp, but hasn't gotten his appetite up yet. TDO pellets also a NO. Will try PacPods and ROE a bit later. Still have to finish setting up his upgraded temp home.

Note: he's also sticking his mouth out of the water a lot and sometime spitting water. Which is funny but also a bit concerning. Should I be concerned? @Slocke @i cant think Also, @Crabby48 if you know about that kind of behavior in a new fish? This guy seems extremely calm. Comes RIGHT up to me. I could stick my nose in the water and he'd probably touch it. Not breathing heavily. Bubbler keeping the air oxygenated right now.

Thanks!!

Honestly, mine spit water when they feel like it, or when hungry. Is he pecking around the rock?

Not too much. He's swimming slowly around the top near the surface. But clearly was sleeping peacefully in the sand before I got in. I'll keep an eye out for strange behavior. No flashing or heavy breathing that I can tell yet.

Mine don’t peck the rock anywhere near like my Tamarins and Leopards do, they’re much more like the fairies with swimming.
If you have any rocks that are covered in algae and “established” then I find they’re perfect for observation.
