I have a mp10 and mp40. I bought them used. 10-11 years ago. I clean once a year. The mp40 is a beast compared to a mp10
Incredibly wide flow patterns. It can move a ton of water if you turn it up. I absolutely think it’s a quality product and worth the money. Plus I am very picky about my tank and the ability to not have cords in the tank is a huge selling point.
If yours is noisy, it’s not aligned right. Try tiny adjustments - a 16th of an inch, can cause noise and vibration. Spend a few min to then it up to the max speed you intend to use, move a smidgen at a time until it’s quiet. Then then it down a little at a time and make sure vibrations don’t start. Sometimes you need to make a few adjustments to get it in the right spot.
My one mp40 can create a counter clockwise gyre that covers 36” of my 48” tank
Once a month, I take my mp40, mp10, and return pump and I crank them all to 100%. Not on a wave mode just constant at 100%. I literally see the massive gyres forming on opposite sides of the tank and watch all sorts of crap get sucked out from behind, under, and inside the rocks. After 5 min, I put the mp’s back to normal and let the overflow catch whatever it manages.
If you have any placement or setup questions feel free to let me know.
If my new 80g ends up needing a supplemental pump, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another <used> mp40
