Mine don’t peck the rock anywhere near like my Tamarins and Leopards do, they’re much more like the fairies with swimming.
If you have any rocks that are covered in algae and “established” then I find they’re perfect for observation.
I pulled some rocks from my cryptic, so they aren't covered in algae but was a pod residency. He's pecking at the rocks now and I dumped just a bit of PacPods in and he's becoming more active. Pretty good news. Very small mouths, no?

Glad it's no longer that weird pale pink. Thought you got a hogfish at first honestly

Small tanks and wrasse can be enough for odd behavior and more so when no sand and live rock. That’s enough to keep them from eating and or coming out of sand. My earmuff for 2 or probably way more in holding and qt never came out of sand. Tank had pods and live brine along with nori. Nori would disappear at night so I would soak it aminos and vitamins. Also my live brine was gut loaded with aminos, vitiams and phyto. Overkill yes but easy to do.
I love to see them eat but don’t worry much because once healthy they eat or need to grow before eating. They eat pods so I don’t worry. Stress sick are two that keep them from eating.
Spitting water mine do not they only come up and tail whip me. House guess one day though a tank leaked when they herd water hit floor. Many will spit water I’m told and do behave it.

Keep tank natural as possible and big as possible. If you qt start at the bottom with antibiotics and or prazi. Watch for him to act different. After those treatments then you could do copper if needed or wanted. Copper may or may not be needed but most of the times prazi and or antibiotics. That said couple months ago ich and velvet been everywhere from just one source.

New wrasse is in the QT observation tank! Bye bye bucket!

Found him sleeping when I came in at 10:45am. I've got to get a light schedule set up for him!
1720812679784.jpeg

And he's showing off, too.

Also loves the little arch I made for him and poking through the Codium.

Coloring up nicely! He's eating some stuff I put in, but so far completely ignoring pellets. I'd like the pellets to work so I can start him on Metro/Focus!

Goals for the week:
1. Clean the glass on the 40
2. Kill the aiptasia in the 40 and the 10
3. Teach the pencil wrasse how to eat pellets
4. Start treating pencil wrasse with Metro/Focus
5. Get pencil wrasse a buddy
6. Figure out how to deal with Ich/Velvet prevention--observation tank has a ton of live rock and sand so copper and chloroquine won't work in that tank... Hyposalinity? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Short update on the 83 gal tank buildy build.

1. 80lb of sand arrived
2. 3x 4" media cups arrived
3. Just purchase an mp40--while not a fan of how expensive it is, wanted to go no cables in the tank to minimize cutouts in the upcoming lid

Debating whether to put the Plank in the Sump on the return chamber or on the actual tank. Appeal of the sump is not having to make a cutout on the tank lid. Just no idea whether it gets pumped up into the DT in an efficient way. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Here's the newest guy hanging out in the observation tank.

Horribly overpriced. I got one from a good local contact that had theirs in operation for 4 months. $295 but still not happy about it. I decided to overfeed my black widow again and play Barry White on loop so I can pay it off over the next few months!

i cant think

I felt that way when I bought my first MP10, back when they were around $200...but, I will say, it has been chugging along for more than 10 years with very few issues. (And the few issues i have had with it were mostly my fault).

The Splendid Pencil Wrasse likes frozen mysis! Picked some up today. Showed zero interest in my freeze dried mysis or calanus.

Not a single one of my fish likes this stuff. I don't even know if the corals and nems enjoy it. I mean, they take it when it hits their polyps, but I imagine they involuntarily ingest it in the same way that I involuntarily ingest kale or quinoa. Maybe make the same face if they had faces.

Nothing likes the freeze dried stuff. The fish version of rice cakes and uncooked instant ramen I’d assume

Apparently none of my fish are going through the college years.

No, it's not that. They know they can hit me up for the good stuff, drop off their laundry and be on their merry way. Spoiled rotten.
