Miscommunication with my distributor source. Had to put together a super fast QT--bucket it is for now with bubbler, some big pieces of rubble and sand. Hope she makes it till I can set up the real QT tank.
@Slocke @i cant think I don't know that this is the right wrasse. Was purchased as a female Pseudojuloides severnsi, but I'm not so sure. Will try to get some more pictures before I let her go into the sand.

My guess is P. cerasinus. The yellow on to top is throwing me off, though. P. kaleidos has that orange-cream streak on the top, but not sure if the sides match. Possibly P. spendens? Dark swath on the caudal fin might agree. How wild would a P. polynesica be? Tail's not right, though. @i cant think what's your bet? I hope she lives!

She is not at all shy and comes up to the surface and stares right at me. Dropped a bit of Reef Nutrition ROE and PacPods in and she pecked at a bit. There should also be a few amphipods and copepods in the rubble. I hate to leave her here. The "I can't come home, dear, I have a new fish that I have to sing lullabies to." doesn't go over so well.
Such a sad state of affairs:

This is what happens when you throw together a bucket for a fish at 5pm.

Got some slightly better pics and videos. Pardon the quality--keeping the lights dim for her comfort.

My guess too. Hard to find these wrasses as adults, much less juveniles/fully females. Get to see some of the transition though! ... If she-he lives :loudly-crying-face: I'm new to this--first non-pre-QT'd fish.

After looking at many more photos, I'm placing my bets on P. cerasinus, with hopes that it's actually P. splendens (like the colors a bit more). Pretty sure P. kaleidos is out due to lack of black patch in caudal fin.

Now we have to wait for the UK to wake up (@i cant think ). Get up you lazy blokes!

P. cerasinus is unobtainable until Hawaii opens again :)

I have been eyeing up a female in my LFS simply because I keep trying to ID it but can’t and would love to see the male.

This is a Kaleidos ;)
Very similar to them but they have some clear differences. If I’m honest, Pencils are quite hardy so as long as he’s got some food sources and looks overall healthy they tend to thrive.

Now I have to make hime LIVE. Hopefully he survives the bucket tonight. Then setting up the QT tank. I'm a bit worried about instant cycling, but we'll see. Then I have to decide on the QT procedure I want to follow... Sigh... I hope this guy makes it. Goong to get him comfy and eating first.

If you’re able to I recommend observation first and then put under medications when needed to :)
These are hardy but if possible I would avoid copper altogether with them, they are alright at lower levels but higher levels when wanted to be dosed that way they can be sensitive to.

I will start mine off tomorrow with ROE, live baby brine, PacPods, and I have some nylon sponges in the back of my 40 harboring a bunch of amphipods. They might get a dunk. Will try to progress to TDO pellets too
