7 in a 300. Also had 3 in a 92 for 7 years: YT, Hippo, Purple and never noticed a behavior difference. I sometimes question the "canned" reactions of some about tangs and tank size.
My reaction was far from "canned". I saw his photos of three huge tangs with at least 9 other fish in a 125'.

I strongly feel that the tank is too small for these fish. I also indicated that I am not sure where that actual line or grey area is, but this looks to be way past it.

Yeesh, being so opinioned on other peoples hobby decisions seems absolutely exhausting. Must take away from overall enjoyment to be so burnt about it.

I have 1, a Hawaiian yellow tang in my 75g. He's been in there for over 5 years, has doubled in size and has to be at least an inch thick. But, I'm sure someone will say I might as well have him tied to a tree in the backyard :squinting-face-with-tongue:

I personally would not have 9 tangs in a 125.
  1. Can it be done for a short term dependent on size = Yes
  2. This is a dangerous bio load
  3. Long term should include a place to re-home them as they grow. The naso will get to be at least 9". A sailfin can easily reach 6" tall.
I am hopeful you will recognize when to place them into a much larger aquarium.

These fish dont grow quickly. Maintain water quality and diet and its doable. This was my 135g with these fish in there 11 months. Not recommended but doable
