And yet, isn't the whole reason to post such a thread to try to prove them wrong and justify a large number?
I am all for taking care of animals that I have and if I see something wrong with them then I will make sure that they are taken care of and I do have resources to a much much larger aquarium if I need to put any fish there

The keywords being "if you see something wrong".... so your judgement, not well established guidelines or common sense are the metric?

As I said, there are certainly some grey or fuzzy areas, but you blew through this 5 tangs ago. That tank is arguably too small for a single grown blue tang, let alone 3 or more of them crammed in their with 6 others and clowns, etc.

It is not a question of biological support or aggression as much as it swimming space and territory. I would strongly suggest rehoming the 3 large tangs. They are simply too big for that tank.

They actually all have spots in the tank that are their own territory and they don’t have problems with the space as well I can see problems with my fish because I am very very strict with checking everything daily on the fish and I am super strict on testing water and parameters of things that might be overkill I also learn as much as possible from marine biologists and books as well I have been in the hobby for a long time as well and have always wanted to be a marine biologist as well so lots of terms and things that most scientists use I understand and know how to better make things most favorable for the fish

7 in a 300. Also had 3 in a 92 for 7 years: YT, Hippo, Purple and never noticed a behavior difference. I sometimes question the "canned" reactions of some about tangs and tank size.

You are rationalizing your observations, as if the general rules and reality don't somehow apply to your setup and fish.

Again, this is not an issue of water quality. It is an issue of space.

I would like to think that wanting to be a marine biologist and reading all of those books would have helped you make better choices for these fish.

No worries though, there are many people that will tell you what you want to hear, some may even suggest 4-5 more tangs will fit in there. :)

In my old 90g, I had one YT. In my upcoming 200g, I will have 3. All of the smaller variety.

I guess if that is how you want to rationalize those huge fish in that tiny tank... we shock monkeys and watch their hair fall out in the name of science too...

But with that being said I also have means of giving the fish bigger space if they need

How many tangs has everyone kept at one time in their tank. Me as of now I have 9 in my system. I would also love to see some pics of your tanks as well!
