@Miami Reef you like chemistry puzzles huh?
These unlabeled containers contain MEK, HCN, and HF among other chemicals however we don’t know which container is which. Which one is going to kill me next week?

Is this a trick question? I feel threatened. :p

And yes, I do love chemistry puzzles, especially hosting them. Have you given mine a guess?

To answer your riddle, the one that I am required to open. lol

The answer is probably HF. It’s always HF. HF is stupidly dangerous and yet commonly used in industry. Just most industries don’t have a low level of HF mysteriously wafting around…

It would be a completely blind guess. I have no idea. You have defeated me.

That would not be smart. Though we have found a container of sweet tea. It’s like the every flavor jellybeans from Harry Potter but way worse.

Well the clams dead. Fell off the rock while I was gone and ended up face down. Same thing happened to two other corals but they're alive. I'm feeling very apathetic to reefing right now.

Thanks. I’m just tired really. I’m spending weeks on the road and when I get back it just feels like a chore to get my tank back on track. I know this is temporary and I’ll have the time to enjoy them again but right now I’m so burnt out.

Rant about my job below if anyone dares:

Also this week just sucked. It’s not fun when you and the people working with you are scared. I got into emergency response for a reason but with what has been happening where I’ve been working the last couple weeks is too much. We made some changes and things are much better now but I had an epiphany on Wednesday that we are so lucky no one got hurt or worse.

Sorry for the rant. Some people decided the word emergency means we need to rush to fix an awful situation without enough thought about how to do it safely.

Chin up @Slocke ! Sucks when the higher ups lack foresight or worse, priorities that include their own team's well-being. The world needs people willing to put themselves out there to solve the big problems. I know what the nasty situations can be like... crowds throwing bottles at you, marched off in the dark by men with ARs... still the best years and the best work I've done. When the shiza hits the fan, good to have a tank set up to go on autopilot for a while with minimal intervention!

Sorry amigo! I've been there. I'm currently going through similar situations at work - just not safety related. Priorities change every day it seems like and I'm expected to not just adjust, but fix everything and keep up with ALL priorities at the same time. And dealing with staff that refuse to work - or even come to work??? - and nothing HR will let me do about. My initial response is too harsh so I make it lighter and now it's not harsh enough???

Wow! That is scary. I know this is massive for me and my career being given a dumpster fire like this and things are going well but just some temporary stress.

Uggh. I get that. I was told this week that we had to wrap up by Friday so I permitted overtime. That got shot down because it was too expensive now they have to work Monday and Tuesday which is more expensive and they have to wait another half week to see their families so no one is happy.

Thanks both.
I demanded the week off and honestly the tank is mostly doing great!

That sucks man. The first lesson I had drilled into me in ski patrol training (emergency first responder is a far cry from disaster cleanup I know) was make sure you and the patient are safe. No need to add to the injuries or death.

Hope you can rest well and maybe call a buddy to help with the tank.

Thanks. And honestly it’s much more disaster cleanup than emergency response. Though emergency response is plastered all over our gear and cars.

So the GSP on the weir box was starting to block it up and even shade out the montipora. I had a seriatopra that was consumed and it was growing off that too. So I did some brutal surgery.
