anyone with a PAR meter , that wouldn't mind checking my light output ? new lights, and running them low at the moment, so I don't fry my corals on the new Led's...
Thanks,
Chris

I borrowed the clubmeter once...was not impressed with it at all. They simply don't give good readings that can really tell you much at all. The readings will jump up and down, never sitting still for even a second. When you get numbers for example, 66, 48, 75, 43, 21, all within a second, what would you say your PAR is?

It's one thing to check light going through air, but once it's in the water, I've found them to be pretty worthless. Not only that, but I was unable to find out just what readings I would need for zoanthids, palys, sps, etc. I had hoped I could use the readings to help place corals in my tank. If anybody has had better results, I'd love to hear how, but I found it to be a complete waste of my time.

You'll probably have to see for yourself, but don't expect to learn much of anything with a PAR meter.

Thats strange cause I used it last and out side of the middle LCD being hard to read it worked good.Mapped out my whole tank,at W50% B75% RB75%,then W75% B100% RB100%,with my AI SOLs,don't know why it wouldn't work for you. :squigglemouth:

By the way,Pres. has got it,least he did at the meeting Sunday.

I have to ask, did you turn off all your pumps when you were taking your readings?

My understanding is a standard PAR meter can be off as much as 30% unless you use the type of PAR meters the underwater bioigest use, which cost thousands, but said that to say this our type is close enough to get you close!Going from T5s,Metal Hi. to LEDs your best bet is to get your reading first before you remove your present lighting, because its alot easier to get where you wanta go when you know where at before you started, most LEDs are PAR monsters anyway and you can burn up corals real fast,so a PAR meter is real handy. :amen:
