Well, I knew it would happen... Turtle got crabs. ;Woot;Woot;Woot

@reefcleaners CUC has arrived! Of the three emeralds, two are female and one male. Exactly the combination I was hoping for, but didn't ask. Starfish, snails and hermits look good. They are floating for 15 minutes, and will then be added to the tank per instructions from reef cleaners.

Awesome score!

I have always purchased from John at reefcleaners and have always been happy.

Ok, ok... MOAR PIX!

Edit: ok some of those loaded out of order. I got the ME coral superfood sample in the box from the JKR life sale. I had used a little bit before, but since we have the algae growing in the right spot I've started feeding A LOT more food. The corals have responded tremendously well and my chaeto is taking care of the excess waste. I'll show you chaeto growth in the next post...

Chaeto growth...

7-19-18 when we first got the Kessil H80

Shortly after this we split that in half, that left us with roughly a softball size ball floating in the sump.

Chaeto as of 8-26-18

It has grown thru the overflow into the return and started growing on top of the bubble trap. I had to clean that up and put everything back in the refugium. Almost time to harvest again, but I want to treat with flucon before I try and give any away. Otherwise I'll just trash it. I'm not going to knowingly pass bryopsis to anyone.

Ever consider doing a chaeto reactor? I'm playing with some ideas. Yes, I'll do a build thread. Actually have mods to 3 tanks going on. I'd like to keep both Biocubes on one thread.

FWIW, I considered it. I love the concept. It seems like a very efficient way to grow Macro (which I believe is beneficial beyond simple nutrient export). For the size of my tank though (45 gallon JBJ AIO) and its placement in the house I decided to refrain from adding any pumps or plumbing outside of the tank. it just seemed like an unnecessary risk. If I had a sump the reactor is the way I would go.

My tank is also probably too young though to make it worthwhile, but I did drop some Chaeto with a grow LED in one of the back chambers.

EDIT: I do have one external pump for the ATO, but that is a small, peristaltic pump with only RO/DI which is less damaging. I do not have to undo plumbing to swap the reservoir out.

I've actually "built" a chaeto reactor... Umm, it's on the Deep Blue thread. No idea which post, you can flip thru all 207 pages if you like. It did work tho. I plumbed it off of my return pump and throttled the flow so it wasn't too strong. I used a Somatic UF-1 media reactor with I think a yard of red and blue LED strip light. It grew chaeto perfectly fine on my 35 cube, altho I eventually switched back to a refugium. It's easier to clean out a refugium than it is to take apart a reactor, but on an AIO tank or if you don't have sump space... if you can tap into the return pump, or have room in the back for a second pump, a chaeto reactor could very well be the ideal setup for you.

I was looking at an AquaTop or Aqua Medic media reactor for a mod. Take a look. I'd like to hear what you think.

This Aquatop is the one I just purchased. Combine it with one of these LED strips and I think you'll be in business.

Thanks Robin. That was the one I was leaning toward too. Ordered.

Very happy with mine. For $40, I don't think there is a better deal on a reactor out there. It's easily just as good as the $100+ reactors on the big name websites.

I'll pull mine out of the sump and get some pictures later today. I'm off tonight so I have some time to play with the tank.
