So I was wondering why you don't see this wrasse in the Trade anymore... A few years ago I saw them but tank wasn't ready. Cirrhilabrus nahackyi

Good question. I obtained one in 2013 that lived a little over 4 years, and back then they’d sometimes be called the Tonga wrasse. I loved that fish. I’ve thought about getting a new one every now and then but the price is still high and they don’t show up that often.

They come from pretty deep and aren’t easy to collect. But I also wonder if the coral exports stopping in those areas has led to much fewer fish being collected there as well.

Really beautiful fish.

the tank is young and the tangs are only abt 1.5 inches

i have a neon/yellow head wrasse in my 40 gallon that i want to bring to the 75 gallon it’s about 2.5 inches long

Pintail spam.

Today was heavy tank feeding with reef frenzy. Here’s the little gluttons hanging out while the corals finish eating.

Is the yellow head a radiant wrasse? Halichoeres iridis?
If so then the possum (Wetmorella species) and a pintail (Cirrhilabrus isosceles) are good matches. However that tank is too small for a second Halichoeres like the Halichoeres chrysotaenia. You could get a small flasher or a leopard though?

I believe the Yellow Head Wrasse is H. garnoti which is fairly aggressive once matured so all wrasses on his wanted list are out.

Vrolik's is out of QT and adjusting to the tank.

Having two tri-colors in the tank is paying off as both have become males. They school together except for a few days every couple weeks where one hides while the other flashes. Wish I could get the colors to show up on camera.

Hey everyone, bad news on the C. rubeus. Both of the C. rubeus in QT ended up with UNWD and were euthanized. C. brunneus female is still looking good and I should be picking up on the 5th or the 8th Jan.

QT guy also has a briangreenei available. I'm not sure if that would be a suitable substitute for the rubeus to go in with a brunneus in a 3 foot tank. Rubeus being the on the smaller of the Rubriventralis complex, could probably swing it. Briangreenei, being in the Rubrimarginatus complex, maybe not? Any opinions?

Thanks!

I have word from my coworkers that the pinkies are still out and about in the back of the tank while I'm away.

First had another local offer me a katherinae, turned down, not right for the 3' tank. Now a briangreenei, debating. That's four rubeus that haven't made it through QT, all with UNWD. Is that normal? Thinking of stopping there, since I don't like seeing so many wasting away :-(

Third times the charm? The flasher wrasse died in my LFS's QT system one week before I was supposed to pick it up. I put a labout's fairy wrasse on order and hopefully this will be the first fish going in my 10 month old LPS system
