If memory serves, harlequins don't eat brittle and serpent stars, which is good as I have 4 very large brittle stars. They do, however, eat pretty much any other star they come across. I'll need to figure out what to do with my Linkia <insert sad face here>. I'll also need to get about 4 or 5 chocolate chips to keep in the sump for when the harlequin runs out of food.
I read you only need one chocolate chip star to feed one shrimp. The legs "should" grow back fast enough to keep up.

They don't grow back fast enough, so you have to put different ones into rotation.

but I read it on the internet...... ;)
It should be noted that, having never done it myself, the internet is where my information comes from, too.

The Magnifica arrived around 10 this morning, and was in rough shape. I did temp acclimation and then drip acclimation (with lugols at 2 drops per liter) over a period of two hours before introducing it.

When it arrived, its mouth was gaping and guts exposed, but was still sticky.

I placed it in a sheltered area and it grabbed the rock pretty firmly almost immediately. It has since closed its mouth, retracted its guts (mostly), and begun to inflate a little. It has also begun to move a bit toward higher ground.

Big Momma and Leroy took notice almost immediately, and are keeping a watchful eye over it.

Nem guards are in place on the vortechs, so now we wait. We'll see how it fares over the next few days. I'll be paying close attention to its mouth and tissue expansion.

A few other updates:

In advance of the nem's arrival, I tweaked the lighting spectrum, adding higher intensity of greens and reds and lowering the whites early and later in the day, with a peak intensity of 25% mid-day.

I'm still on the fence about the harlequin, but moved my little red linkia to the mangrove fuge just on case.

Bonus coral pic.

It has moved itself to the high perch that I created for it (sweet), but seemed to be having trouble grabbing ahold with its foot in the high current, so I dialed back the vortechs and killed the gyres for now.

It is still largely deflated, but has opened up considerably. Fully inflated, this is a 12" specimen. It's mouth has clamped shut tight- a great sign! Keeping my fingers crossed.

Greetings Team Styx!

I have some important updates that I will try to get to later on today but, for now, the harlequin just went in. Which is critical, as I'm fairly certain that I have Aquilonastra and not Asterina. We'll see how this goes.

Oh, I almost forgot what day it was... it's Foxy Friday, yes? This is "Venom", one of the new additions to the family while I was away, and honorary member of the tang gang.

Speaking of the tang gang and new additions to the family, meet "Lady Chanel". A Mimic / Chocolate Tang, and the newest member of Team Styx.

In addition to those guys and the engineer gobies, I also added four Lyretail Anthias (1 male and 3 females), known affectionately as "Iceberg Slim and his Bi%$es", a Black Sailfin Blenny named "Jimmy Buffet", and a cleaner wrasse named, "Streak". I'll post pics when I can.

Now for the not so good.

The Engineer gobies (now collectively referred to as "Hamas") gave me a pretty bad scare. On Wednesday, while monitoring the nem, Bonnie swam out from her burrow and I noticed missing flesh near her head and along her side. I was also able to get a good look at Clyde, and he looked equally rough. Panic!

These guys were prequarantined and treated, and also went through a Hydroplex bath and freshwater dip. They were active and looked perfectly healthy upon arrival. Initially, it looked like Brook. ***.

Having no ability to run the DT fallow and treat everyone in hospital tanks, I freaked TF out. I immediately started a course of Rally, Kick, and Medic.

No other fish was exhibiting and signs or symptoms of infection, and the engineers were still super active digging away at their tunnel system. While they did appear a bit mucousy, they had no signs of labored breathing and were eating like pigs.

I've been monitoring the tank for the last two days, watching helplessly and waiting for a tank wipe. Since it wasn't Brook, what TF could it be? I did some reading and found that these guys can inadvertently dig into anaerobic / hypoxic areas of the sand bed and release dormant tomonts that would wake up in the presence of O2, and in turn, release theronts into the water column. Having had Velvet two years ago, I felt sick to my stomach.

Still monitoring and nothing. Not a single fish showing signs of anything, and no change in the engineers' behavior. It would appear that they just scraped themselves whilst digging. Something that is, apparently, very common given their lack of scales.

I'm going to continue with a full course of treatment and monitor regardless, just in case; but, I'm no longer freaking out. Keep your fingers crossed.

Addendum:
Given my freak out, I had completely forgotten that the harlequin and tang were on the way Until I got the shipping notification. I suppose though that with the entire tank being treated, there's no better time to add a fish. Maybe? Hopefully.

Nem Update:

On morning of day 2, the day after arrival, I checked the tank and found the nem upside down on the sandbed behind the rockwork. It had clearly let go of it's spot in the middle of the night. I moved it back to a sheltered area in the aquascape where it would get good lighting, but not get battered around too much by the flow.

It has been inflating and deflating to various degrees, but has kept it's mouth tightly closed. It also appears to have attached its pedal disc firmly to the rock work.

I'm continuing to monitor, and have a small hospital tank (20B) on standby to begin a cycle of Doxycyline and Neomycin, should it delflate and go slackjawed again.

Will keep you all posted.

Nem deflated again, but still has its mouth closed. It does not appear to be attached firmly to the rock, but rather just sitting in the sheltered niche. I have a hospital tank warming up, and will make the call in the morning. Had to go with a 15g that I had lying around, because I found that my last 20B had a chip near a seam. Smdh. It's always something. In other news, aside from the engineers looking like they swam through an inferno, the rest of the fish all seem fine. Will continue to monitor.
