We're proud to have both of these great companies as sponsors of our community, and super excited about seeing them come together for this event!
Now, I said this giveaway has a bit of a different spin to it, and here's what I mean... One of the things we love about having a community like Reef2Reef is that we can come together over our passion for all things marine and celebrate the wonderful parts of the reef hobby, we enjoy showing off tanks, talking through complications, finding solutions, and celebrating progress toward those thriving beautiful reef aquariums, and we do all of that together in community! Well, in this event, you guys are going to get to talk through all of these different aspects of the hobby with the guys behind these 2 awesome brands.
Each day, you will be given a discussion prompt (or sometimes maybe more than one), and your response to that prompt is your entry to the giveaway! It really is that simple! Engaging in conversation about reefing topics with @Avast Justin and @Top_Lids is how you participate and WIN in this contest!!
The grand prize for this giveaway is a Plank Autofeeder and a large bag of Reef Jerky (feeds an average size tank for 5-6 months) from Avast Marine and a custom Luxury Lid from Top Lids w/ Food Regulator!
Also, in addition to that grand prize, the great folks at Avast Marine and Top Lids have said that they will be monitoring the giveaway with the plan to award bonus prizes to people they see who are completely engaged with the contest and the ongoing conversations in here! You know, I think about this often. How so many things apply to reefing 101. Our own body chemistry requiring a balance of Mg, Ca and Alk. Understanding climate change and why we are losing so many natural reefs. Ideas for treatment of Red Tide here in FL and why, this year, it wasn't nearly as bad as anticipated (I believe the giant floating mass of Sargassum outcompeted for nutrients). It's incredible, when you stop and really think about how it all connects.TANK TALK: Share a lesson you've learned from your reef tank that applies to life outside the aquarium. It could be patience, resilience, or the importance of balance. Comment with your reef-inspired life lesson for entry into the giveaway
The warm welcome I got coming back after a long break! All the old timers started cutting frags and helping me fill up my tank for free!TANK TALK: Our community is full of passionate aquarists. Tell us about one of the most memorable experiences you’ve had with the reef community.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that I really think Broadfield changed sump cabinets for the entire reefing community. Usually we want to hide our sumps and the tangle of wires that go with it, but he made a lot of us want to show off the sump with just as much pride as our main display. I remember reading through his entire build thread for my own inspo, and so many others had questions about materials, where to order parts from, etc. Everyone wanted orange pvc, clean control boards and pipe manifolds with a couple of aquamaxx reactors lol. And I don't think it was too long after that Adaptive Reef started coming out with control boards, Neptune launched its new Apex with the iconic dominant orange look, more companies started developing tank lines with colorful PVC. Anyway, it all may or may not be coincidence, but the timing sure seemed to add up to me! Even so, it certainly changed how I think of sumps. What ever happened to Broadfield?TANK TALK: Our community is full of passionate aquarists. Tell us about one of the most memorable experiences you’ve had with the reef community.

For sure, a young buddy (16yo) and reefing enthusiast encouraged me to put in some of his mature biomedia into my fluval evo. My first ever reef tank. I had it stuck in my head that I had to do the 2-3 month cycling process. I'm so glad I listed to him! I had coral in my tank by the end of week 1! What a wonderful and short journey it has been.TANK TALK: Our community is full of passionate aquarists. Tell us about one of the most memorable experiences you’ve had with the reef community.
How about three pieces...TANK TALK: Regarding aquarium equipment, what is one piece of advice you would give to another aquarist?
Went to a guy's house to buy some of his old Fiji and Marshall Island rocks, dried out for 5 years. Wish I had bought the whole lot. Was fun to chat with him for a while and see his tank. Been in reefing for decades. Before leaving he just broke off about 20 heads of a huge torch and put it into a ziplock bag for me. Only kept a head (nano tank) and donated the rest, but still have the torch!TANK TALK: Our community is full of passionate aquarists. Like most things, you get what you pay for. Cheap metals corrode and rust. Cheap pump are usually noisy or get hot.TANK TALK: Regarding aquarium equipment, what is one piece of advice you would give to another aquarist?
