Avast Marine and Top Lids are teaming up to bring you an awesome and fun giveaway with a bit of a different spin!! Welcome to the "Tank Talk with Top Lids & Avast Marine Giveaway!!" Both Avast Marine and Top Lids have established themselves with a reputation for quality and innovation that leads to epic excellence! We're proud to have both of these great companies as sponsors of our community, and super excited about seeing them come together for this event!

Now, I said this giveaway has a bit of a different spin to it, and here's what I mean... One of the things we love about having a community like Reef2Reef is that we can come together over our passion for all things marine and celebrate the wonderful parts of the reef hobby, we enjoy showing off tanks, talking through complications, finding solutions, and celebrating progress toward those thriving beautiful reef aquariums, and we do all of that together in community! Well, in this event, you guys are going to get to talk through all of these different aspects of the hobby with the guys behind these 2 awesome brands.

Each day, you will be given a discussion prompt (or sometimes maybe more than one), and your response to that prompt is your entry to the giveaway! It really is that simple! Engaging in conversation about reefing topics with @Avast Justin and @Top_Lids is how you participate and WIN in this contest!!

The grand prize for this giveaway is a Plank Autofeeder and a large bag of Reef Jerky (feeds an average size tank for 5-6 months) from Avast Marine and a custom Luxury Lid from Top Lids w/ Food Regulator!

Also, in addition to that grand prize, the great folks at Avast Marine and Top Lids have said that they will be monitoring the giveaway with the plan to award bonus prizes to people they see who are completely engaged with the contest and the ongoing conversations in here! So keep your participation up, and you could win cool bonus prizes!

My tank ain’t the prettiest, it’s a 20 water box. Always been a fan of saltwater and fishes but never paid any mind to corals until 2-3 months ago. There’s constantly people roaming around this tank that’s sitting about shoulder level. This lid is so nice.

TANK TALK: Regarding aquarium equipment, what is one piece of advice you would give to another aquarist?
Don’t get the cheap heaters. I’ve seen people buying some of the off brand cheap things (mostly fresh keepers) but having a heater that you can control the temp and of a quality build can mean the difference between life and death with your inhabitants.

build it yourself!
A lot of the times the off the self stuff is expensive garbage that you can easily replicate for yourself with customizations that fit your needs.

buy the best pumps, heaters, and lights your budget will allow. there are things you can go cheap on, but those are not them. also, find the size you think you need and get at least one size larger.

Make an investment in your equipment. If you can afford to, buy reliable brands and avoid lower quality equipment. Especially when it comes to lighting and pumps. You'll be thankful that you did later on down the line.

Save the box! Lol...let's be real, we all upgrade and we all shop the marketplace threads. Nothing sells better than a clean item in the original packaging. And most importantly, care for your equipment. Take the time to clean it up regularly. Your pumps and lights will thank you

Have some sort of Thermostat controller on your heater. Dont trust the dial on a heater as they can be off plus or minus a few degrees and you wouldnt know it

TANK TALK: Share a lesson you've learned from your reef tank that applies to life outside the aquarium. It could be patience, resilience, or the importance of balance. Comment with your reef-inspired life lesson for entry into the giveaway
It's definitely to be patient and trust the process. I was very anxious to add fish and coral sooner than I should of but I remained patient and trust the cycling process and everything has worked out for my first year of reefing. Same as life, be patient through all the ups and downs, never give up and keep pushing forward.

Solid advice there. Also important for returns if something breaks under warranty.

Inexpensive is not the same as cheap and expensive does not mean quality. Ensure you spend a reasonable amount of time researching equipment on youtube and forums.

I could really use your plank feeder. I've heard that you can somewhat be successful with Tukas with it. I have a few on order after the holidays.

As for the lid. I'd love to have another for my 60 gallon cube, have one on my 280 mixed reef now and love them.

Great prizes from two amazing companies. Whoever win is going to be lucky.

Late to the game but glad I'm here to play. I would put one of these much needed ldts onto my redsea 425xl in replace of the flimsy mesh and use the autofeeder for some of my breeding projects.
