TANK TALK: Coral placement... How do you decide where to put a new coral in your reef? Is it based strictly on the coral's needs, is it about how it looks, a bit of both (how do you balance that)?
I try to place the coral as close as I can to match it needs. The hope is that the coral will acclimate and grow. At that point if I want to move it, I might do that when I first trim or frag it.

For me, it's a bit of both an available real estate. I try to take into account growth, future flow issues, looks, and the needs of th coral. However, with that being said, the majority of my corals are placed for future growth and potential coral warfare.
The coral warfare I have not done great with

based on corals needs, but new corals generally start lower and in lower flow and gradually move to final spot

As much as I love all coral, I try to be responsible about what I purchase and do as much research as I can ahead of time. The forums are pretty handy for tips, but I like to search for pics of what I'd like my frags to look like and try and match those parameters as far as light needs and flow goes.

Official Entry:
I have a refinished Oceanic 120 with a 30G Eshops sump with a 15 gallon nem tank and 30 gallon frag tank attached.
I'm running Noopsyche K7V3s and 2 ATI Pure Blue T5s on the Display Tank, a Noopsyche K7Mini on the nem tank, ReefBreeder and XR15 Blues on the frag tank.
A Jerepond 3500GPH pump feeds it all and the Display Tank has 2 rebuilt Ecotech MP40s on sides and 2 Jerepet 3400GPH Aquarium Wave Makers on the rear with an Ecotech MP10 on the nem tank and a RedSea ReefWave45 on the frag tank.
An Apex Classic with 3 EB8s, a PM2, and a WXM tied into the 3 Ecotech wavemakers controls most aspects of running the tank with the help of the Jaebao DP-4 Doser.
There is a 9 stage RODI auto-filling a DIY ATO reservoir that feeds the high throughput Kalkwasser stirrer and the SmartAWC ATO. A Jaebao 24Watt UV is plumbed adjustably in-line with the return to help with either parasites or algae.
I'm running a DIY filter floss roller and an Bubble Maggus Curve 7 in the first chamber. Liverock and a Parlgae Scrubber in the second chamber. The third chamber has a Danner Mag3 pump controlled by the SmartAWC so it can pump the old water change water up and out through the ceiling to my drain, another random pump for my carbon and GFO reactor, and the JerePond hoss of a return pump.
I tried to set it up on a budget and for the most part I did but now that I write it all out It's kind of nuts how far-in this hobby will take you...
I'd use it to feed Timmy my big Emperor Angelfish who'll eat all my corals if I leave him too long.

Official Entry - currently have a 24g AIO, planning to upsize to a ~40g (due to space in house and budget). Would use this to maximize and automate the benefit of the fish in my tank

TANK TALK: What is your dream fish or invertebrate?
Official entry: A male lineatus wrasse.

I have a top lids lid on my tank. It is worth the money. They spent a lot of time on the phone making sure they got what I wanted right. Easy to feed. It is split in half. I can
Remove one side at a time as needed for water changes. Whoever wins the lid will not be disappointed.

I have a long list of dream fish but they are all common in the hobby I just want ones that will be happy and thrive in my system.

1. Hybrid pbt
2. Naso with streamers
3. Vlamingi (best personality in a fish)
4. Angels that won’t eat all my corals
