TANK TALK: Share a happy accident or unexpected success in your reef tank. Sometimes, the best things happen when we least expect them.
We had a carx mishap which lead to a 80-90% panic water change to attempt to salvage what wasn’t already dead and the tank actually exploded in growth and what didn’t die in the alk spike milk rebounded and did better than ever

I don't have a reef tank yet (coming soon) to share a happy accident or unexpected success, but if this counts, I'll share of my first freshwater tank as a child. I didn't know a lot about keeping a fish tank then, but there was this one time when my goldfish's tail was starting to rot. I didn't know the cause of it or how to treat it. I started to do more frequent water changes hoping that would help. Unexpectedly after a month, I noticed the tail was looking better.

My happy accident was Blastos! I bought a single year and it held on for a while so I'm bought a few small frags and they did great! I went from 6-7 heads each of Merletti on two frags to well over 30 heads starting to encrust the EggRagORack they're on.

TANK TALK: Share a lesson you've learned from your reef tank that applies to life outside the aquarium. It could be patience, resilience, or the importance of balance. Comment with your reef-inspired life lesson for entry into the giveaway
My wife heard a sound that the aquarium was making but I did not. I gave it a quick look, admired the growing coral and went to bed. In the morning, the living room carpet squished! Apparently my wife heard the skimmer cup was filling up due to a chemical I had dosed the day before.

The life lesson is to listen when the wife thinks something is wrong.

Unexpected success would have to be my sand sifting starfish. I thought that when I brought him home (Hubbs wanted him) that he would only thrive for a year or so. He’s been going strong for well over that and comes out quite often.

What a great give away! Entering.

This would be an awesome upgrade to my IM 40L, especially the feeding area!

TANK TALK: For those of you who already have a lid...how easy or challenging is it to feed your fish or do maintenance on your tank? Share your experience for your entry today. (Post clear pic of your lid in a separate post for a bonus entry!)

I have plenty of cutouts for my feeding and I just take the lids off to do cleaning. Its not terrible by any means. Its definitely worth the extra hassle for the peace of mind.

Sadly I cant think of a happy little accident, only bad accidents haha.

I would say unexpected success was I did a dry start and had great coral growth and stability in the beginning enough so I had great Acro growth 3 months in. Dosing h202 killed that off lol.

Patience for sure as its something I have always struggled with. I have a JG Wentworth attitude, "its my XXX and I want it now!"

Nothing good ever happens fast in a reef tank and having something that I have to take slow and methodically plan out is good. I do like to automate everything I can though.

I think I'm all caught up, sorry for the multiple posts, was unable to participate over the weekend!

TANK TALK: Regarding aquarium equipment, what is one piece of advice you would give to another aquarist?
Don't cheap out, and buy the nicer version of what you are looking for. It doesnt have to be the most expensive, but there is likely a reason the cheapest "x" is the cheapest.

TANK TALK: What is your dream fish or invertebrate?
I won't be getting one but I LOVE seeing a Giant Moray Eel tank. It's what drew me to the hobby in early 2000s. Went into shop to get cat food for new Bengal kitten and it had a giant tank with one snowflake. I went in there for years for my cats just to see that eel, then started a nano tank.
