TANK TALK: For those of you that have a lid already that's not from Top Lids, how easy or challenging is it for you to keep your lid looking clean and pristine to match the rest of your tank? Reply with your experience for your entry today. (Put your answer in one post for an entry and then post a clear picture in a 2nd post for a 2nd entry.)
The only lid I have is the stock lid for my fluval evo 13.5 and I don't like it. It's a pain in the rear to move the chamber cover and then find a spot to place the lid without dripping condensation everywhere. Or dropping the light and lid accidentally. Plus the crazy amount of salt creep that builds up around it because there's no air gap whatsoever. It looks sleek! Don't get me wrong there...but it sucks to get in and out of for maintenance.

TANK TALK: Share a happy accident or unexpected success in your reef tank. Sometimes, the best things happen when we least expect them.
Found a baby Bangai that had made it through all the plumbing ,filter socks, protein skimmers, UV pumps and baffles into the center of my sump with the caulerpa and had body about size of a dime when I found him :)I
I saw that the parents were breeding but I was not able to catch them and transfer them from the display and never saw any offspring in the DT. So this was a very cool surprise.

For me this has been PH. Weekly testing would be like 7.8, 7.8, 7.8, 7.8, 7.8 then all of a sudden 8.1 Its like that just magically happened and nothing was changed or altered lol

I lost an acro that was knocked off by a large snail. It was under sand for weeks, but I found it by happenstance, and it is doing well.

Happy accident- when we were rearranging the tank we accidentally bumped our spongode and monti spiral which ended up breaking so we got some frags off of that. All four are doing well.
unexpected success- we got a cheap acro frag for $20 to try and see if we can pull them off just yet and so far so good! We had a toadstool in our tank when we first started it and the parameters were crappy which caused it to close up and never open. We thought it was a goner but we finally got everything in check and its grown and is happy and out now.

It has taught me patience when I thought I had patience. A beautiful reef doesn't come fast. I've also learned about sticking to one method is best and not take advice from everyone.

My tank is still new, but I just got a few mushrooms for my tank and I got them from the "loose and cheap" bin at my LFS. One was sort of attached to this giant plug disc (his emotional support disc). so, I took him. Well, a few days later i see a coral on the side of this unnecessarily ugly large disc. After some macro photos some thought it was a bad anemone, but only to find out it's got many polyps, and 12 tentacles...and it's likely a Flower Pot Goni! just a little hitchiker and he's growing and each day is more and more looking like a goni! Doubled in size in last week (well almost doubled), he was under 1/8 inch now he's just under 1/4.

The mushroom still won't let go of this dang disc. It's so ugly.

Downright impossible tonkeep clean and maintain properly seated. It is a diy from brs and maybe it would work better if there wasn't a light mounted on the rim. I have salt creap all over and themesh dips into the water from time to time if the rubberband holding it aganist the light arm breaks.

Bought some no name acros as a new hobbyist and the corals are doing pretty good with PE and new tip growth. Thats my unexpected success as a new hobbyist, didn't think I could do it.

My unexpected success was adding coral after a week of setting up my first ever saltwater tank. Mature biomedia and a couple rocks from a LFS that had been in their system for months gave me the turbostart I needed. So far it's going well!

I used caribsea live sand and Dr. Tims fishless cycle and cycled my tank quicker than what was expected. Will always go that route when setting up a new tank.

I also used the caribsea live sand too. Forgot to mention that. I was fully expecting a 60-90 day cycle like I kept reading. After getting advice to add live stuff... that's definitely much faster!

I have always had great luck with my clean up crew, so much so the I have started having to dose nutrients and over feed to keep my corals happy. Limpets have also started breeding. My only problem is that I have a small bubble algae infestation, and nothing that eats it, I need to buy some emerald crabs soon.

Having a hard time thinking of accidents that had a positive result... best I can think of is when I went after a gorilla crab with my metal tongs and accidentally speared him. Wasn't my intention, but no more gorilla problem!
