My tank may not be the prettiest, cleanest, best stocked with the latest tech, but nobody else knows the speedbumps encountered along the way, reef related or not, that resulted in it's current state. The only thing that is important is that I enjoy it. Same thing applies to life in general.TANK TALK: Share a lesson you've learned from your reef tank that applies to life outside the aquarium. Calm and Serenity, my tank teaches me to relax and take it slow. I am an advocate of not chasing the parameters and not fixing what isn't broken. Life flows over time and you have to look for each opportunity. The little dish swim around all day just waiting for what's next and never complaining. My little lid is hand made, 2g pico tank. My 5g nano tank is stock fluval. It gets covered in salt and I have to rinse it weekly.TANK TALK: For those of you that have a lid already that's not from Top Lids, how easy or challenging is it for you to keep your lid looking clean and pristine to match the rest of your tank? Both my tanks need a new lid, so either one. I have a 5g Fluval with the stock lid but my updated light is in the opposite end. This makes the factory lid sit funny. My 2g pico tank has a jagged edge homemade lid.TANK TALK: Do you have a tank in desperate need of a lid? Comment with the model name and a picture of your tank for your entry today!
We use automated feeding on overnight trips and manual feeding when at home. We switch the food around to keep everyone happy and not overfeed.TANK TALK: Manual feeding is an important activity by which to observe and evaluate all the animals in your care. What are your thoughts or questions concerning the balance between manual and automatic feeding?
Our tank brings the family together to watch what's happening. It instill lifelong interest to investigate and keep balance to things around them.TANK TALK: This hobby is hard sometimes. If you could boil it down to 1-2 sentences, why do you Reef? What keeps you in the hobby for years on end?
I usually give three points of advice to new reefers. With equipment, buy what you want/need the first time instead of taking shortcuts. Also, keep it simple and stop buying a hundred different pieces of equipment. (Choose what is actually important)TANK TALK: Regarding aquarium equipment, what is one piece of advice you would give to another aquarist?
I have made my own in plexiglass and regular glads. Finishing is more than half the process.TANK TALK: For those of you who have had both DIY screen lids and professional polycarbonate Top Lids, what have been the biggest differences for you?
Not a current tank, but I custom built this entire stand and mounting.TANK TALK: Share your favorite DIY project for your tank. One lid. Gets lifted every time indeed. Sometimes slams closed, scaring the fish.TANK TALK: For those of you who already have a lid...how easy or challenging is it to feed your fish or do maintenance on your tank? Gotta pay attention to the small stuff. Patience for sure. So many times I have been tempted to make immediate and rapid changes without waiting to see if something even needs to change. Sometimes, after a change I'm too quick to try to make another change, then another, and then another! I've tried to learn to sit back and wait and see. Unfortunately, sometimes that wait and see means I lose a coral or two, but I don't crash the tank.TANK TALK: Share a lesson you've learned from your reef tank that applies to life outside the aquarium. Seems so simple...but just wait a week or two to add your sand until your rockscape is finished and ready. This happened this week! This is my 2nd reef tank setup. Adding live sand to jump start the biological process is not going to be that much faster. Versus having to scoop most of it out and then most the rest aside while positioning rocks in completely cloudy water. Foolish!TANK TALK: Share a lesson you've learned from your reef tank that applies to life outside the aquarium. It could be patience, resilience, or the importance of balance. Exactly! I needed to slow down my brain and just be patient. Your response was the first from what I can see and it fit my situation this week perfectly!Slow down- I struggle with going too fast at work and life and my tank forces me to slow down. I’m working on it !!!
