That's just a normal IOWA winter LOl. Once winter gets here the humidity drops and all the tanks need to be topped off daily. Then in summer it's the opposites its so humid.

I'm still a rookie. But unplugging the heater to do some maintenance and then forgetting to plug it back in. Tank sat at room temp for nearly 48 hrs! Ordered a wifi controller that night! Get yourself a simple wifi controller for peace of mind.

Not for a reef tank, but I'm sure I'll be experiencing that soon since my lid will be the open mesh style. I do have a 100gal Mbuna cichlid tank that is going through at least a gallon, maybe more of water loss lately. Definitely going to need the ATO humming when this new reef tank is up and running with livestock.

Had a massive water loss while on vacation. Really glad I have an Apex. I was able to turn the return pump off until I got home.

Loss was due to really hot days. It made me get a portable AC heater and dehumidifier.

Don't remember who, but whoever led me to using ocean live rock. Ocean live rock has made all the difference in my reefing experience.

The stuff I read in Martin Moe's "The Marine Aquarium Reference" book pre internet. It may be just a bit dated but the basics are still solid.

I live in Arizona (Phoenix Metropolitan Area) so I'm in the middle of the desert. In an effort to avoid running a chiller, I have significant surface agitation. My tank is approximately 100 gallons of water and I evaporate about 2 gallons a day year round. Humidity by the tank runs almost 50%.

Keep those phosphates, nitrates, and alkalinity stable if you want to start keeping Acros! I had 0 phosphates and struggled some with algae and couldn't keep Acros alive. Started dosing NeoPhos and got to a 0.14 ppm and have had significantly more success with SPS in general and algae has been more manageable ever since.

It seems very simple now. PURE source water. RODI just seemed so excessive and time consuming when i was younger 0TDS makes life easier.

I started coral too soon. Lost most of my first few rounds.

I learned a lot from the live sale threads, but also got cought up in the hype. Now I hang out there, have fun and don't feel any pressure to buy.

Cycle? Who needs to cycle a tank. This was a dreadful mistake I made. That poor snowflake eel and valtentini puffer didn't stand a chance.

Take the time to properly cycle your tank. It'll be better for you and your pets

Calm down. No seriously Calm down, it's probably not the emergency you think it is! It's just aiptasia or cyano or high phos or ich. You have time to take a breath and act rationally.

Also:
Quarantine your fish you can afford a 10 gallon qt tank to save your $100 fish. And if you can't, I got one for you, the tank. Not the fish.

I used to have it badly in my apartment thay I didn't want to use AC in. The evaporation was immence and the fans used to cool the tank did not help

I lose about a gallon per day. Don't notice the humidity because everything is humid out the heat is on and drying everything out.

No impulse purchases and stay away from snake oil products like product that was sold as a cure all for fish tank management and it was just a tube ofagnets.

Not me. I do feel our basement , walk out, gets decent airflow and we have radon mitigation so that helps too. Summer time depending on day if we just turned on AC can be bad.

But ATO is a life saver
