Thinking I could go forever without rodi. I have really low tds from my source water so I thought I could go without. I did eventually notice my alk creeping up. Things have been way better since.

Official entry: I’m new to this hobby and my boyfriend has been in and out for a few years. We would love a lid for this 20L! I feel it would really help keep most of our contaminants out i.e. dust and dog hair we’ve actually had our dog swing her toy up into the tank once and let me tell ya it was not fun I feel like the jerky would give our fish a new variety to try. The auto feeder would be awesome, we’ve been wanting to try one for a while now, but I kinda like the feeding by hand so to speak. Feels more connected to the fish‍♀️

TANK TALK: Have you ever rescued a fish that had jumped by getting them back into the tank before it was too late?
Yep...heard the wet "splat" on the floor, picked the domino damsel up and plopped him backin the tank. Two years later, wished I had put him in the sump.

I had hair algea but not alot. I tried to lower the phosphates in the tank and used too much NoPox. I pushed the phosphates too low and then had a long battle with dinos.

TANK TALK: Who has ever experienced massive tank water loss or humidity in their house from tank evaporation?
First tank, Biocube32 i had it in my parents den. In the summer it gets over 100 daily. Window units and fans everywhere. Even with its lid you could feel the swampy air blowing out the top! felt like i put a gallon of water in that thing a day.

Dang. I used to use my 75 as a freshwater and it was topless, I evaporated 3 gallons per day at it's most. When I converted to salt, I made sure to use the glass lids it came with so I didn't have so much fluctuations. Now I'm down to 1 qt to 1/2 gallon a day.

TANK TALK: Do you currently (or have in the past) use another type of autofeeder? What are its limitations? What key feature would you like to see in an autofeeder?
I got a coralvue hydros autofeeder as a gift. I had two problems, 1) it didnt fit with the glass lids I have; 2) i did not have the appropriate hydros controller to run it. So it went back and I haven't tried another since.

The very first clownfish we got in the 30gal, jumped when we had the lid open. That tank was on a tv stand, so it landed next to the tank. We were able to scoop it up, and get it back in. Seemed no worse off. Did it again a couple weeks later.

TANK TALK: Who has ever experienced massive tank water loss or humidity in their house from tank evaporation?
Dont have either of these. I was hoping it would keep the house a little more humid during a dry winter, but no luck. Usually, if any larger water loss, it has to do with a plumbing leak for me.

Massive is relative I guess. My big tank is the first tank I have without a lid and I was not prepared for the amount of evaporation that happened. I never need an ATO with either of my nanos that have a lid. Finally got one set up
On the new tank and can topping off the tank multiple times per day.

TANK TALK: Have you ever rescued a fish that had jumped by getting them back into the tank before it was too late?
Yes! Actually for some reason a couple years back my clown female jumped. I noticed her within minutes and plopped her back in. She has been going strong since. I think the reason was because she had come from rimmed tanks, and went into the Waterbox. No rim to show her where the edge was. Luckily she’s none the worse for wear.

It’s a yearly struggle. We have space heaters and it seems to suck up the moisture rapidly. My ATO is going off daily.

When we first started we were doing two cups of water a day in my 20L. Got tired of that real quick and got an ato. I can’t imagine a bigger setup like some have mentioned!

Welcome to the hobby! Your instincts on manual feeding are good. It is an important time for observation which will let you develop a feel for how your tank is doing overall. The autofeeder helps by enabling consistency for the times you're away, and the micro feeding during the hours you can't be at the tank. These high energy tropical reef fish love constant snacks even more than little kids.

My biggest rookie mistake was over feeding, it lead to having so many problems with my water chemistry. Don’t heavy pour or put more food than necessary.

Thankful this hasn’t been an issue but if u had a humidity issue I would get a dehumidifier to remove the access moisture and try to keep the room cool to stop any major evaporation from occurring.

Can't say I have experienced massive tank water loss from evaporation. Back when I had a 10 gallon, we always had a lid and if I recall, only had to add about a cup of water a week.
