do you clean the bubble trap when you take it out and if so how?
Yes, when I remove it I rinse it in the sink. It’s much easier to get the nasties out while it’s wet. Once it’s dried the foam needs to be soaked again to rehydrate things.
1. fill sink enough to cover foam.
2. squeeze and release several times.
3. replace water
4. repeat above process till water is clean after squeeze rinse routine. (Usually three times)
5. let air dry

No soap or chemicals

I’m really hesitating on the colour of my Reefer 350, black or white? Here’s a picture of where it would be going, what do you guys think? It would be next (but far enough) to chimney on the right side. The couch won’t be the same, it’ll be a brown one if that helps.

If I were you I would do for white. Black will be (in my opinion) too dominant in your bright home and will draw attention to the cabinet and not the fish and corals.

I would vote white as well, with your white walls the stand will blend in leaving your tank as the focal point.

Sorry to go against the grain here, but my vote is black! It would match your fireplace and become a focal point of the room INSTEAD of blending in with everything in that room. I think it would be a nice contrast next to that reclaimed style brick you have. Plus, black goes with everything!

I might be a little biased, owning a black Red Sea myself, but that is my humble opinion that you're welcome to take or leave :)

Cheers!

I'd go white. You want your corals and aquarium water to pop against the background not the stand, imho. My ideal is a suspended block of water with a beautiful reef with nothing to distract from the inside... I think this is why Redsea's minimalist aesthetic is so popular.

Thank you guys for all your inputs, too bad it’s not one sided haha but I really appreciate your advices since I have terrible “fashions/design” tastes. I’d rely on my wife but I wanted opinions based on the fish and corals as a focal point, not just the stand in the room.

Does anyone use Kalkwasser in the Red Sea ATO? I’m wondering as it pulls water from the bottom if that causes an issue. From reading about using kalkwasser in ATO it says to pull water an inch from the bottom.

Following. This question may have been answered so I'll look around the site. What are you guys doing for flow on a peninsula style tank. I've seen MP40 on either side of the overflow. Would a Maxspect Gyre work better mounted vertically on either side?

I would not use Kalkwasser in the Red Sea gravity feed system. Kalk tends to settle low. You’ll end up with a high concentrate on the bottom and next to nothing at the top. However if you can keep it agitated say with a cheap powerhead on a wall timer it might work. You need to clean the lines regularly. The Kalk will clog up the drain.

That's what I was afraid of. Back to the drawing boards

Recently added a refugium to my RSR 250. I saw this concept on a handful of builds and decided this was the route I wanted to go. It adds a substantial amount of water volume and will provide plenty of space for macro algae and pods to flourish. I am using an AI Prime Fuge for lighting.

No, I bought a 7 gallon cube tank and drilled it. This is the link to the tank I bought.

I then built a simple stand out of wood and sealed it with white flex seal.

Do you all think it’s necessary to even have the bubble trap especially if you hardly clean them out?

I realize you weren't asking myself, but I don't have the bubble trap installed anymore (the sponge filter before the return chamber). Someone else on this forum once said "Let it flow!" and I tend to agree. From my understanding the sponge filter helps to eliminate micro bubbles and also filters out some particulate. Using filter floss in my cups so particulate doesn't seem to be an issue in my setup. Likewise with the microbubbles. I don't really notice any in the display, or at least none that bother me.
