Sexy Corals Favia / Reef Odyssey Acan Blow-Out Grow-Out 2011!

Here's what I'm thinking....

Send the favias over to Nate so we can give them a shot in a different system under T5's. I've also got a couple pieces I've picked up that I want to add to this group so I can get the pieces out there should anything (God forbid) ever happen to my tank. You guys have been awesome to work with on this buy, I like sharing what I've got, and I couldn't think of a better group to share these with. Since we'd end up with 2 growers at this point that does mean two separate boxes being shipped, I don't think the price will be much of a difference between two lighter boxes and one heavy box and I think the extras will more than make up for the difference.

I'll hold on to the acans since they're doing awesome and we can decide as a group when we want to chop em and ship em.

Again, just an idea and if you guys want me to hold on to them and keep growing I will but I think it's worth a shot to try them in a different system under different conditions.

I'm sure you guys hate me asking if you want me to add some free pieces but like I said I don't really sell anything and I've got some frags laying around so I figured what the heck...

Are you guys comfortable with these going into a tank that's less than 3 months old? If it's just for a change of scenery (e.g. lighting) i think we should wait a tiny bit longer. I'll go with what you guys want though. I'm not a huge fan of favia's anyway. Besides I trust Nate. Hey Nate, I actually saw Bob Marley back close to 30 years ago. I'm guessing before you were born. Haha. He played Zion Train.

While I don't think a 3 month old tank is 'ideal' I think Nates tank looks pretty good, and I see that he has committed to some kinda high maintenance animals w the harly and blue spot. So seems like he likes a challenge and keeps up w things.

I am fine with waiting a bit longer or moving them. Luv-That is mighty generous of you to throw in some frags too!! I guess you really want those favia out of your tank haha. I'm usually not too picky when it comes to gifts so whatever you want to throw in is great. And if you change your mind don't feel obligated to include anything at all.

If sent, how would we want to handle the extra shipping to get them to Nate? I'm fine sending some now or adding that to the final shipping cost when we ship out the final. Just let me know.

Gives us flexibility to have two different end dates as well.

Nate-how long were you thinking to let em cook? Just see how they do and get an estimate after you see if there is any growth?

I have no idea how long I'd let them sit. I was planning on buying a frag rack, so they'd be in an otherwise unused part of my tank. In other words, they could sit until they finally decide to grow. I don't think giving them a little more time is a bad idea either though.

That's awesome Beerman! Definitely jealous, really wish I was alive when he was. Would've killed to see a show of his, his son's just don't cut it haha.

Other than that one the other favias are looking alright, I'm not very happy with how the Mia's and Mayan Sun are looking color-wise and those are two that just refuse to eat so I'll keep an eye on them.

The acans are all looking awesome, no major change there. Been feeding 2-3 times per week and the colors all look great.

I'll get some pics up for you guys in the next couple days. Sorry it's been a while, the weather has been amazing here!

SUPER excited to see new pics! I guess we need to pray for rain to keep you inside. Have you noticed any growth on the favias at all? Or still status quo?

Got some pics for you guys, will do my best to get them posted tonight!

Mia's and Mayan Sun are still looking pretty bland...the dark vampire and the others are looking great and they're right next to these two so I'm not sure what the deal is. It's keeping me up at night worrying about these guys! I'm definitely staying away from favia's in the future!

I do not throw out praise falsely or lightly like other people do on other growouts because they want to get the best frags. Lol. Whatever happens to these corals I will have no doubt you did your best and that is all I can ever ask for. This is a good group of guys here.

Definitely a great group, glad to be working with you guys on this. I absolutely am doing everything in my power to ensure you guys all end up with some awesome acans and favias, I just wish the favias were doing better than they are. Here are a couple pics for you guys! I'll take some more this week.

I do think I'm going to turn the LED's down a little (5%) and see if the acans turn more red like they were originally, I feel like they've turned a little orange. Other than lighting, does anyone know if there are any nutrients that affect the red color in corals?

Thanks for the pics!! They are looking very healthy. I have no experience w coloring up corals, but have read that reducing the light has worked for others. I trust your judgement in caring for the corals.

Any improvement on mias or Mayan sun?

Definately agree w above and 2nd it... So I should get the 2nd nicest frags?? totally jj. Thought never really crossed my mind. I figure they all look roughly the same eh? No real improvement on the Mia's or Mayan, they're not really receding or anything just looking bland and they absolutely refuse to take any sort of food whether its mysis or pellets...
