Hi all,

I bought a new innovative 10G tank from a LFS. I did my best to inspect it at the store, but missed this when I got home.

The tank has a bubble in its seam. If I press hard on it, the bubble goes away.

Any ideas on what to do? Thanks

That’s not comforting!
I’ve not had any do that.
Squish the air bubble, not for me.
Return? Exchange?
This is the time to resolve it before loading.

It is a 10 gallon tank, I am assume it will not fail. That said, it is new and a defect. I would exchange it for a unit without a flawed seam.

Thanks. I’m unsure if the LFS will return it since I paid cash. Can I add silicone to fix it?

Is it that bad? I have the worst luck.
Is not that bad, it’s small and easy to handle.
Could leak in the future but slowly.

Just keep a tote of the same size on hand in case it does.

It was just the fact it was new.

Everyone’s building tanks these days and some are not well constructed in my opinion.

Thanks. If I put silicone over it, would it solve the issue?

That’s fine.
Reef silicone of course.

I just get PO’d when I see flaws.

Last week someone returned a new tank in which a seal was not completed at the “factory”, which turned out to be someone’s basement.

Building top glass boxes takes much experience IMM.

Yeah I hear you. I’ll definitely use reef safe silicone.

It’s just sucks because it’s an innovative marine tank. I tried my upmost best to inspect it in the store but the lighting wasn’t great and this was in the corner. I don’t think I can ask for a refund, and this was the only tank in store so I paid cash.

I feel pretty bummed out. If I do silicone it, do you think it’ll resolve that issue?

Don’t be bummed out man.
It’s not like your the first.

You’re talking 10g, it’s not going to explode.
IM is one of the better manufacturers IMO.

People point out glass box flaws all the time, no one can say for any certainty it would fail and being 10g and a IM, I would not sweat that.

Silicone it, let it set, forget it.
That’s my thinking anyways.

You can't put silicone on top of dried silicone....it won't stick

That’s just really a cosmetic bead of silicone to clean the corner up.. the tank is fine, the seal is between the glass… fill it up and enjoy it!

I don't see what needs to be fixed.. the silicone between the panels is smooth and consistent all the way down, that discoloration towards the bottom looks like it is in the bead inside.
