yes bottomish for at least a couple days- you can shock them with too much light from the starting gate. Easier to recover from too little light.

I was thinking the same thing. But if his acros all closed up, probably not the case. @NatanylJames did you test what the AF batch ALK was before the water change? Maybe you got a bad batch with crazy low ALK? My AF batch tested 8.0 and my tank was 8.5. The next two days after the 20% water change my tank is 8.4. But like you said, your tank is happy with RC and RC is cheaper than AF(when not on sale) so may as well not change.

Exactly. I keep my alk around 7.7-7.8. Haven't had problem with AF.
