Sounds like my Kalk isn’t keeping up, what do yall suggest I dose in addition to? Don’t think I want a calcium reactor.
I like the AFR kalk combo. Been my staple for a couple years. 50/50 split is nice because it does alot of heavy lifting for trace and everything else, between that and 10% WC it really makes keeping a high consuming tank fairly easy. Just top off the fast depleters like iodine, flouride, manganese. Currently at 4.4 liters kalk and 110mL of AFR per day in my 125. ICPs have always been >92%, last was 98%

You do pay for convenience. Saltwater aquariums had the buy 2 get 1 half off, wish i would have dropped a thousand on that.

What’s the best dosing pump these days? Don’t really want to drop $200 on a versa
I just set the trusty jebao back up on the waterbox. Love my GHL dosers but def pricey and i can see long term theyre just not gonna win with how far behind their software side of the house is. Theyre too far in on an outdated platform to redesign.

Adding an automatic fish feeder was like borderline programming a bank mainframe in COBOL

Mine was running 200ml an hour of kalk and never skipped a beat. Did chew up a few of the inner dosing head lines, I changed out the pump tubing for med grade silicone and used PTFE for kalk lines. Still hasnt cracked a line or clogged ever since. Now its cranking away at the waterbox.

What's the big kalk attraction for everyone? Seems like a lot of work. Just curious why not something else instead. There are easier ways for ph boosts if that's the deal. I know a lot of people use it

Ph boost is last reason i do it. I legit mix 15 gals up in my sump, and my alk and calcium are on cruise control for 2 weeks. Ive never dosed calcium by itself, even once.

I cant fathom why every reef isnt started with kalk until evap limit.

From a chemistry perspective you never upset chloride/sulfate balance like you do with calcium chloride in 2 part. Thats also an added benefit of AFR over 2 part, as calcium formate doesnt impact chloride/sulfate either.

Ph boost, and balanced Alkalinity and Calcium all in one.

I never had to adjust them separately when I ran Kalk.
