I may have missed it, but I dont see any reference to what your phosphate levels were. I see an assumption you have high phosphates. You took action without measuring?

The only issue i have with your rocks having hair algae tells me good stuff like biofilms and coraline havent fully developed. I wouldnt immediately assume you have a phosphate issue, id assume your tanks immature, which it is.

What light do you have above that tank?

It’s not hair, it’s just a green algae, slimy, filmy, coralline stays alive on plugs and stuff where there is already coralline, but it doesn’t grow out from there, my rock is new rock, i added new rock in. While back, keeping the old one in the tank duuuh, but just crushed up, im going to remove the clear max tomorrow morning
And good night everyone!

You need to measure phosphate and use an appropriate amount of a product based on numbers.

Clearmax?

This stuff?

If you added one of these pouches, each one is for approx 35-40g of tank volume

You have 11g tank. I hope you are taking readings with test kits and then using the correct amount of a product before tossing it in

You
Well I set myself up. I just meant a clown won’t help his algae problem.

Conch will just clean sand. I have them in two tanks I never see them in rocks or glass.

His rock is bound up wit phosphates he needs gfo or Phosguard running 24x7 ( for now) and replaced every couple days, until all that phosphate is sucked out of the rocks

You are not in danger lol

And once the phosphate is out of the rocks and situation is resolved we dial back control methods

Phosphate comes from fish food, waste etc. it’s going in the tank everyday. Just cause you measure zero, doesn’t mean you don’t have any. You can’t measure what’s in the rock. And you can’t get it out of the rock, unless you keep the water phosphate free or very low phosphate.

I ran 0 to near zero phosphate for 18 months. My tank did great and I grew many of the corals you see in it now

Your corals will get phosphate added to water naturally and they will feed off light. You can do amino acids for vitamins and those don’t increase phosphates. Plenty of food for the corals.

Unless I read wrong
About the just pitting it in
Yah , there’s nothing there about just plopping in. Please measure your phosphates first. Wouldn’t be surprised they’re near zero due to algae. Probably get a spike when the algae gets killed. That’s when to use something like the Clear Max. And water changes.

Read it wrong ? Your making stuff up entirely.

I did not tell you to get clearmax, I said gfo or Phosguard

I did not say to plop anything in

I didn’t say to use 4x the volume of product for your tank size

With the things I said
1) if you used gfo you would need to use phosphate test kits to see where your at and to figure out how much to use, based on current reading and tank volume

2) if you used Phosguard, it’s the same thing. A formula on the back tells you how much it can absorb, and you would measure an amount into a media bag and replace every 4 days until target number is reached.

Nobody told you to go buy this stuff and plop it in. That was something you came up with and decided to do

Do you have a phosphate test kit?

And when I said you’re not in danger I meant if you use an appropriate product and an appropriate amount. Assuming you would get a suggested product and follow directions on the package or use a online calculator tool to determine how much to use

@stewy14 , with such a tiny tank I’d just pull the rocks and scrub them down with a stiff brush , rinse in a container of fresh saltwater as well as give your sand a thorough cleaning. And replace as much of your tank water as is feasible. At least that’s what I’d do.

I wouldn't suggest gfo as it's a tricky thing especially for rookies.

A 50% water change would be fine as long as alk and temp are close...it's an 11 gallon tank. But @steveschuerger is correct....manually remove the algae and swish it in a spare bucket of water then return to tank...easy.
