Looking good and I spy a HollaGram!
Which one? I got a couple freebies, at least one Un-named.Looking good and I spy a HollaGram!
Agreed. 0.02 could have bottomed out. Like @billyocean said, aim for a minimum of 0.06. I think anything 0.04 or lower could actually be bottomed out or flirting with it.I'd work on staying above that 0.02 probably. That's within the margin of +/- on a Hanna.
One day I’ll probably get automated alk/cal testing.Or you can use this lol:
I’ve been looking into trying kalk this week. Pretty much, the most you can dose is the amount your tank evaporates. My tank evaporates about 1.25-gallons per day, so my plan is to start by dosing about 3/4 -gallon per day at night when the PH is lowest. Probably every hour on the hour after my lights go out, until they turn back on and then photosynthesis can handle it from there. So I see people dosing kalk..the amounts that are dosed daily are quite large. How does everyone make that much everyday?
Could be . It was a freebie. I’ll be doing some more mounting . I’ll check the name on the plug if it has one . The one in back of the stylos for example did not.
I'm seeing people dosing like 1-4 gallons a day in systems...I'm probably in that range.I’ve been looking into trying kalk this week. I bought a 14-gallon clear plastic bin from Target that I’m using to increase my ATO while on vacation and using a 50ml per hour dosing pump. After vacation, my plan is to saturate the water with kalkwasser and then substitute with 2-part, if needed.
I figure if I put 12-gallons in the bin and dose 3/4 gallon per day then the kalkwasser will last me 16-days.
Plus I won’t be making anymore water than I am now because all this Kalk dosing also counts towards ATO.
So I suppose it's working well! I'm just switching from red sea alk to sodium bicarbonate. The red sea at 60 ml a day is too expensive. Looks like my ph dropped to 8.07 last night so bicarbonate may be out and soda ash may be in. About to test alk to see where it fellOr you can use this lol:
I dose on a 24 hour schedule and it works for me but I'm not sure if one or the other is betterGood morning everyone. Happy 4th weekend!
Got a question for everybody on dosing technique For Alk, Ca and Mag. Currently, I dose Alk between midnight and 05:00. I dose Ca over 24 hours and don’t have to dose Mag yet. My daily water change happens over 6 hour between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM which adds more of the big three daily. I’m usually out of the house during that water change time and don't hear the noise.
Reason for the question. If i watch trident too closely, the Alk graph shows a constant swing throughout the 24 hour cycle of about 0.3. High in the morning and drops throughout the day. I assume that’s because I dose at night and it’s consumed throughout the day. Would it be better to put the Alk dosing on a 24 hour schedule? Would that help reduce the daily Alk swing? Or. Is it best to dose early so there is more available for use during the daylight hours for consumption?
Yeah, I tried the 24 hour schedule cause I thought it would be better, then went back to dosing it all early morning. Can’t figure out which would be best.I dose on a 24 hour schedule and it works for me but I'm not sure if one or the other is better
It definately drops during the day due to ph rising and coral consumptionYeah, I tried the 24 hour schedule cause I thought it would be better, then went back to dosing it all early morning. Can’t figure out which would be best.
4-gallons per day would flood your sump. I don’t know if dosing 3/4 to 1.25 gallons per day at full saturation will fully cover the alk/cal consumption or not. But it will definitely help keep the PH up.I'm seeing people dosing like 1-4 gallons a day in systems...I'm probably in that range.
So you see that daily swing as well with dosing on a 24 hour schedule? It definately drops during the day due to ph rising and coral consumption
