I Always think that too. I have noticed there's an area with less flow in my tank that I need to add another pump to.
How do you measure flow throughout the tank? String on a stick, or is there a good way to measure it?

How much it moves my polyps..lol. corals have a "I don't know what it's called" field around them that you have to break through with flow. It takes more than you think. There's one spot where I have PE and polyp movement but it's a good bit less than the rest of my tank. I've come to the conclusion that acros don't thrive there as much..par is fine. I want indirect heavy indirect flow to keep those things clean and particulates constantly being imported/exported. IMO the more pumps the better within reason..you can always dial it down. I find most people lack heavy/random indirect flow and usually have one or the other or not enough

How were things after being out for the 7-10 days or whatever it was? Is this when you got a swing?
Yeah...it dropped about .2 per day as my gorilla math figures..to 6.9. Raised it up to 8 over the next few days but i raised to 7.5 the same day accidently but Fortunately no harm that I've seen

Why do you think it dropped so much?
Because when I went out of town and there were no people or animals in the house

For what I can figure it was about a 15% increase in alk consumption. So you could increase dosing a solid 10% and be good I would think.

Ah so! I guess I actually do the same thing, but with a black light at night. All the polyps are extended and fluoresce making it easier to see their random movement.

Sunday to saturday
Crazy how much PH really does play a role in growth. Many years ago I had a very nice SPS tank with colonies grown from frags and I used the best Apex controller available with all the probes.
There wasn't so much "talk" about PH as there is now and although I had the PH probe and looked at the PH trends, I thought it was useless because I can't control the PH. This was before CO2 scrubbers, etc.

Fast forward to getting back into the hobby, I purchased a new Apex Jr. which at the time didn't have a PH probe/port thinking that I wouldn't need it anyway. Big mistake, when I get back from vacation, I'm looking into getting a new Apex and also dosing Kalk at night after studying the PH trends. I already use a CO2 scrubber, but have no clue what my PH is.
