My PH kept dropping and I grabbed one of these on Amazon. When the house CO2 gets up toward 800, the Tank PH starts dropping. Air out the house to get it down below 600 and the PH goes right back up to 8.10-8.30. Can really see the cause and effect.

I have one of those too, on a good day mine is around that, usually it's over 1000ppm. I ran an airline outside to my skimmer to help a bit.

BTW those are battery powered too, take it in the car on a road trip, we hit over 3000ppm with 3 kids, 2 adults, and a dog. Maybe that's why people get tired driving.

Wow! I believe it. Before I got it, I didn’t realize how quick it can go up. I cook with gas, and just making a meal can drive it up 300-400 points. Managing tank PH is so much easier now by just managing house CO2 levels.

Both my plates from last sale are not happy right now. Not sure why, they were both looking good and had their tentacles out for a couple weeks but now they are retracted and almost like cupping instead of being flat. Not sure what is going on with them.
What lighting and flow? Mine is getting good flow in the little prison mushroom box.

Open some doors and windows if possible. At night if it's too hot during the day and rumble the top of your water with pumps for better gas exchange. Do you have a canopy or.anything that covers the top? Maybe leave cabinet doors open where sump is also
The last two days i opened the patio door (tank is within 2 feet of the door with skimmer air intake pointed at the door) since the weather is decent but i havent noticed any change. Both return RFG’s are pointed up at about 500gph each. No canopy and there is quite a bit of chop on the water since its an acrylic tank the opening in the top of the tank is about 4” less than the tank all the way around so i dont have to worry about it splashing out. I cant leave the sump area open (other than than back side being open 5” from the back wall or my 1 year old will try to go bobbing for apples. I even told the kids and dogs to stop breathing as much but thats not helping either.

No CO2 at 50,000 ft. Nice clean air up there. Just not much of it. Yes, you can see the curvature of the earth there and stars in the daytime.

It’s a small tank 14g. Open to advice. I’ve been following Randy Holmes-Farley’s advice on dosing up to 1 ppm once every two weeks.

This is an old article but he still recommends the same dosing plan and refers people to this article still. He’s using bulk powder, but this spongexcel is supposed to increase silicates .2 ppm per gallon per drop so I added 70 drops to get me up to 1 ppm in my small tank.

That recommendation is to keep a healthy amount of silica in your tank. Not to grow diatoms to outcompete Dino’s.
Since your tank is so small the SpongeExcel may work, but it’s still A LOT of drops. Waterglass is WAY more potent. I used this concentration:

The original claim of growing diatoms to outcompete Dino’s is actually what caught my attention and sent me to that article. I’m going to give it a few more days and then I’ll switch to the water glass if I’m not seeing any improvement. I was worried about dosing too much silicate but it sounds like you were dosing quite a bit and didn’t have any issues. If I don’t see any changes, I will order some water glass and increase dosing as you did. Thanks!
