I don't think people realize how heavy of a flow acros can handle and prefer. As long as it's in a random direction and doesn't keep beating it down from one way it can handle a lot. The more pumps the more random interaction from random patterns the better IMO. If I run 100% on the pumps I have it would be about 20000 gph without the return pump. I'm probably around 14000ish as it is now...plus another whatever from return pumpCrazy how much PH really does play a role in growth. Many years ago I had a very nice SPS tank with colonies grown from frags and I used the best Apex controller available with all the probes.
There wasn't so much "talk" about PH as there is now and although I had the PH probe and looked at the PH trends, I thought it was useless because I can't control the PH. This was before CO2 scrubbers, etc.
Fast forward to getting back into the hobby, I purchased a new Apex Jr. which at the time didn't have a PH probe/port thinking that I wouldn't need it anyway. Big mistake, when I get back from vacation, I'm looking into getting a new Apex and also dosing Kalk at night after studying the PH trends. I already use a CO2 scrubber, but have no clue what my PH is.
8.3 avg is moneywhat is the ideal ph then
well, mine was just measured 8.15. I open all my windows when I get up at 5:30am each morning8.3 avg is money
Mine drops to 8.1+ at night. Could combat this with reverse fuge lighting or dosing kalk at night but I just let it ride for now.well, mine was just measured 8.15. I open all my windows when I get up at 5:30am each morning
Yep. I have been dosing my alk at night already. To be honest, pH is something I've never measured or closely watch as I do my alk, cal, nitrate, and phosphate.Mine drops to 8.1+ at night. Could combat this with reverse fuge lighting or dosing kalk at night but I just let it ride for now.
I dosed Kalk and I think the CO2 levels in the house just ate the bump as quickly as it worked.Yep. I have been dosing my alk at night already. To be honest, pH is something I've never measured or closely watch as I do my alk, cal, nitrate, and phosphate.
PH is huge. When I added my CO2 scrubber, alk consumption shot way up.Crazy how much PH really does play a role in growth. Many years ago I had a very nice SPS tank with colonies grown from frags and I used the best Apex controller available with all the probes.

what model CO2 scrubber you have. Does it hook to the skimmer and how long does the media lastPH is huge. When I added my CO2 scrubber, alk consumption shot way up.

I got this one because more capacity equals less having to change out media:saw this on brs. On sale for $31 and the media is separate. I can do this one if I need to. Question is, do I need it?
I have the icecap small CO2 scrubber and it lasted me 6 months. I watched a ton of videos on YouTube and for whatever reason most people it lasts two weeks. I wonder if the BRS media gets consumed quicker so they can sell more, I'll buy some BRS media next to test but for now I'm still on the Icecap media that came with the scrubber.what model CO2 scrubber you have. 6-months?!?! Are you sure it didn't go from Pink to White and then back to Pink?I have the icecap small CO2 scrubber and it lasted me 6 months. Icecap starts white and turns purple. I bought a Hanna PH checker right when I bought the scrubber, really did start to drop when it started turning purple. To be fair, I am chasing optimal 8.4 and being in San Diego I have my windows open pretty much 24/7 unless it is raining and my tank is in a giant 20x20 room.6-months?!?! Maybe I should try the IceCap media!
For me it depends on the time of year, meaning right now with a 105 heat index and the house stays closed up, about 8-10 days. Winter time about 3 weeks using BRS media.what model CO2 scrubber you have. Does it hook to the skimmer and how long does the media last

avg temp here where I am is in the low 80s. with cool winds. Considering my ph was at 8.15 when tested, I don't know whether I should even run the CO2 srcubber. For me it depends on the time of year, meaning right now with a 105 heat index and the house stays closed up, about 8-10 days.
