Ohhhhh.... You're talking about physically building the tank with plywood sides and bottom and only glass or acrylic front.

You'd need to consider what coating to use on the inside. I have looked into it previously and there is a marine boat coating that was supposed to be reef tank safe. Another consideration for an extra barrier of protection could be fiberglass on the plywood prior to sealing? Also a consideration is the lack of a smooth surface. More bumpiness makes it easier for algae to attach and harder for us to remove.
Like what any plywood tank would be coated in. there is a paintable silicone, I used in my terrarium, I forget the name. It's supposed to be 100% Silicone, so should be reef safe. CUC can take care of algae.

What about Tik Tok? After all it’s where people can learn to cook chicken with NyQuil. Even better than chicken soup for colds . I swear.

The only real advantage to a plywood tank IMO is being able to get a massive tank for cheap. For any reasonable size tank I agree with @billyocean that the cost of the tank itself in the end isnt significant.

The only way I would use a plywood tank would be for an in wall setup so that the only viewing side was the one with the glass on panel.

I’ve also read several stories of people not getting them sealed properly. Its not worth the risk for me.

I have a pass through in my house that was probably a bay window before they put an addition on which, if it sticks out 1 foot from the wall in both directions and fills the whole completely, would be about 300 gallons. It would be a great place for a plywood construction with two viewing panels. Easier to drill than glass too.
