If it truly is dinos, you will want to keep detectable levels of n and p at all times like I mentioned earlier.

Also, have you added pods to your tank? They actually hunt dinoflagellates. Small mouths. Dosing phyto will also boost their numbers.

I advise you turn off your return pump and powerheads and then scrub as much of it with a clean toothbrush as possible. Once complete syphon out as much of it as you can and be thorough. Complete the water change by returning new water to the tank. It's annoying, but in my experience manual removal works much better than time and other chemical solutions. It doesn't sound like its a feeding problem.

My tank September 10th before my black out. At this point I had already added Pods and started to bring up my PO4, it was undetectable. My NO3 was already 8ppm.

And here it is after the blackout. It's been a few days since the lights are back on and NO signs of it anywhere.

No I haven't added pods. I guess I should look Into that.

I actually scrubbed the heck out of it and let the filter sock catch it. And I'll probably do lights out for the next two days also.

I did have pods and added a small amount of biospira(tiny amount) at water change time.

Yeah, I'm def new to cycling a bigger tank. And dealing with algae in them. With the nano everything was shorter and a little easier to manually remove. A lot more real estate in this tank.

It's rust colored bud. Stringy bubble filled rust algae
I had the same thing in my tank which I think is on a similar timeline to yours, maybe slightly "older". I mostly let it run it's course. I basted it off the rocks a few times when I got super annoyed with it. Honestly, I did nothing else. No socks, no manual removal, etc. It lasted 4-6 weeks.

Rocks were shelf and tonga branch mostly, not cured or anything like that. I didn't test nutrient levels really, I just chalked it up to a new tank and chugged along.

It's all but gone now, so..patience. :) Now, I'm waiting for the next ugly thing to happen. lol

SPS were all fine, kept color, encrusting, etc, so I figured no need to panic.

That's what I'm hoping for. I thought I'd been patient but I guess I need to wait longer.

For reference, I just looked back and start date was June 24th and I'd say I've only been brown snot free for...a week, maybe 10 days.
