So much talk of Red Sea tanks leaking on a weekly basis on forums, Facebook groups, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc.... so I thought I'd collect some data out of curiosity. I will share the results with sensitive info removed on 12/31/2024.

If you unfortunately had a Red Sea tank leak on you I'd appreciate if you can answer these 10 questions. Please feel free to share this survey if you know anyone that has been affected. Thank you!

Please pass the link to the survey around. We need more responses and data!

Honestly how there hasn’t been a class action lawsuit is beyond me
While it seems like a lot of failures every class action suit I've been solicited to join has the attorneys receiving millions of dollars in fees. Maybe something like this survey will gather enough cases for them to make a few million. If not I just don't see it happening. Maybe if a class action attorney has one fail in their home it may stand a chance.

You're skirting on collecting personal identifiable information. Might want to rethink that.
Thanks for the feedback. Only personal info requested is email and name/username. Both questions are optional.

One person did misunderstand "failure location" and listed their address, but I revised to the question to make it more clear I meant (front, side or rear panel)

Agreed. This will at least give us some sort of visibility and data to these failures that has been going on for yearssss......

You are easily the 5th person to try to do do this. You only have access to a fraction of the hobby... of that fractin only a fraction will see it and of that fraction only a fraction will bother filling it out honestly.

Sorry to be negative, but this is an exercise in futility...

Agreed, it’s only a fraction of a fraction. There’s probably less than 500 failed tanks compared to the hundreds of thousands of tanks Red Sea has sold.

Can't really fill out the form as I was lucky enough to do some research before buying a tank and did not end up with a Red Sea. However I have picked up live stock from 2 Red Sea tank failures in the last 6 months, and one of the display tanks at my LFS is a reefer 250 and the bottom seem is full of sand and ready to blow out.

It is so disappointing to see so many people bury their head in the sand and pretend there isn't an inherent fault with Red Sea tanks. People blame magnetic scrapers, stands, wave makers and even large fish. At the end of the day, they are just crap tanks and should not be allowed to be sold.

I think this is a great idea. And the more people who answer/share this the better. I’d post it in Facebook groups too and I’d be contacting a lawyer if I was part of this which I’m not.

There probably is honestly but that can apply to anything that fails. The difference is there’s a feeding community and people talk significantly about this issue. But if this was something that could harm someone physically it would be recalled/a class action would definitely be filed in a heartbeat. The difference? This isn’t a food, a car, or a child’s toy with a safety issue. That being said people have successfully sued and been sued over far less. I think of the Red Bull lawsuit lol.

I will advise that I had a 300XL G1 that failed. I do not want to provide an email address. Bottom seam failed. Result is they replaced it under warranty with a G2+

I was so looking forward to this tank for years. Never had a faulty tank before but it is only a matter of time. The bubbles now have algae between the seams. We are thinking that perhaps a repair of the seams can be done.

I've tried to post to FB groups, but unfortunately most of them will not approve or remove my post.
Example of “rule broken”. Give me a break lol :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:
