I have corals encrusting on the frag rack because I can't decide where to place them. I'm probably not the person to ask

I voted other.

I put them on the sandbed but not the reason in the voting.
They go on the sand for a week for light acclimation. My light could be way different than the previous tank. After a week, to there spot.

I voted other / all the above because there are situations where each of those has been appropriate for me. Sometimes my new corals just hitch a ride on the back of an urchin and travel all through the tank until they end up upside down somewhere in a cave.

One of the purchases I'll make prior to set up will be a good PAR meter. I'll end up mapping my tank. Based on what I buy, I'll make an educated guess as to where it'll be happy and put it there. If it doesn't like it, I'll move it up or down until it smiles. And that'll be where it stays.

You know that feeling you get when you feel that first chilly breeze in the air on a fall morning? Or waking up with your family on Christmas morning? Or whatever it is that gives you that warm, calm feeling in your stomach?...Yeah, well, that's how I feel when I open my front door and see a soggy box that says, "RUSH! LIVE! PERISHABLE!" Once I start unboxing my new salty goods, I think, "Where in the world are these supposed to go??" Whenever you've just got some goodies in the mail or from your LFS ---

Where do you put your new corals? Rack, rock, or sand bed?

Here is me trying to figure out what to do with new coral:
