A 40 is on the small size for most eel-like fishes. Perhaps a melatremus eel, but beyond that, not much.its a 40b
Some cool fish for a 40 would include a jawfish, a group of barnacle blennies, jann's pipefish, pygmy rooster waspfish, curious wormfish. Though the waspfish is not compatible with the barnacle blennies though.what are some cool fish that work in a 40b
There shouldn't be any issues with those livestock choices.Currently have the following in my 75g non sps reef tank:
2 B & W Ocellaris Clownfish
1 Royal Gramma
1 Flame Hawkfish
1 Starry Blenny
I would like to add:
A Trio of Pajama Cardinalfish (Sphaeramia nematoptera)
Each tank varies as far as what it can handle for a stocking level, but that livestock is all compatible and should be fine in a 40.here is what I'm think about for 40b
6 blue/green chromis
2 clowns of some type
1 molly miller blenny
1 ywmg
am I over socked are am I good
Those are all compatible, but I would add the blenny last.40b stock list planning
6 blue/green chromis
2 clowns
1 molly miller blenny
1 yellow watchman goby
1 Possum Wrasse
I've tried it a few times in tanks, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. Whenever S. guttatus was the larger fish it worked, once with a doliatus and once with puellaris. I have also tried two puellaris and one was quite aggressive toward the other. I'm not sure if it varies by species or it varies by individuals within a species.Looking to add multiple Rabbitfish, every guide says "cautious".
Is that another term for " buy and try", or is there a fish guy here that has that experience? Thanks in advance. I have this guy now. Center above Tangs.
A hex doesn't give a whole lot of swimming space for a tang. A kole or tomoni is borderline, but also depending on the macroalgae, may eat it.Hi guys! I currently have a 20 gallon nano mixed reef running splendidly, and I'm setting up a 93 hex FOWLR / easy macro algae. A lot of the inhabitants are to please the non-fishy husband and kids.
Blue Spotted Toby or Valentini Toby
Pair of Picasso clownfish (already have these in my kids' tank)
Diadem Dottyback (already have it. It's well behaved- had it for a year- and I know it might become lunch for the lionfish at some point)
Long nose butterfly- I know this guy is a stretch.
Antennata lionfish
Any insight guys?
I might want to add a tomini tang, but I feel like that is pushing it.

Not only the dottyback, but also very likely the clowns will eventually be on the menu for the lion.
Just remember, a lion can swallow anything the size of it's own body minus fins. On more than a few occasions I have seen a baby lion grow up with fish, then one day, once it was big enough, decide to hunt tankmates.Agree with the tang.
We have a giant volitans in one of my service tanks who has coexisted with a pair of clowns for years, and I feel like the risk is probably negligible, in addition to quite a few tanks on here that have those guys mixed with decent results. I could do a fuzzy dwarf, but I like the look of the antennata better and they grow to the same max size.
