Just my 2 pennies, you stated you want color. You already have some coral. Let the coral be your color and the fish you get should have a job. Well except clowns, everyone needs at least one in their reef. Most of the utility fish and inverts will have personally so don't worry about that. Pest control= wrasse, algae control on spot fox face and proper sized tang, add a lawn mower blenny. You want to get fish that occupy different levels of the tank, so cardinals( more than 1) and 1 blue Green Chromis ( just one) will stay mid to upper level, and then one of the last fish that many say NOT IN MY TANK! A yellow tailed damsel that will be in the rocks. If added last and only one they add a great splash of color. A falcon hawk is a fun addition and is awesome to watch. A goby and shrimp combo is wonderful for the sand bed. A conch and a cleaner shrimp have jobs and are a blast.

You can't beat the color
Please don't get angry with me, or call in the Damsel police ;-)

But when I was a kid in like 1986 or so, I had a 10 gallon saltwater tank. I mean, under gravel filter, crushed coral substrate, bleached coral decorations - you remember those tanks. The first fish I added to that tank was a yellow tail damsel (sorry, I didn't know at the time that Damsels need more space). I had a big conch shell in the tank he would hold up in at night. Right or wrong, that Damsel was the first AND LAST remaining thing in that tank before I broke it down.

But yes sir! Very pretty, vibrant blue with the yellow tail. One of my favorite fish. They get a bad rap for being aggressive, but so too are Clowns and a lot of marine fish. I'm not sure why all the hate on these smaller Damsels.

I know mine is a model citizen. He claims a small area and that's it. Agreed I think my clown is more aggressive.

I think the larger Damsels may be a greater concern. A small yellow tail is no more a concern than a Clownfish, in my opinion.

Also, most fish stores will test your water for you. There are three kinds of fish stores. Good quality fish store that wants to make a sell. Good quality fish store that wants you to be successful and wants the fish to live. And then just bad stores. Nitrate if 5 is the highest one would want to go. Adding fish might put you over thus killing fish that are already stressed.

This couldn't be less accurate. Nitrate around 5 is not killing anything.

I would quicker conceive that he may have had a ammonia spike, from dumping that much fish into a young system. that could kill the more sensitive fish... maybe, maybe not. But definitely isn't that nitrate level!

Nitrate of 75 (long term) here and no fish losses in over a year, even with no power for a week after hurricane beryl..
