None sticking, but my pond has about 3 inches of ice on it. No snow in the for cast, looks to be a brown Christmas right now! How is life down there? Heading to Myrtle Beach in July, but if I remeber correctly that's a haul from you

You may be able to sneak in a visit to @joeknowsreef !

Yeah, it’s about 200 miles. To bad your not coming to Hilton Head [emoji3525]

Hears hoping for a white Christmas for you!
I could live without it to be honest. I think you've seen a lot more snow than us so far this year!

Just finished reading through all 35 pages of the thread over the last few days, awesome tank. Now following! Have always done freshwater but now that I’m recently getting into salt I can’t get enough of it! Really hoping the wife lets me get a Red Sea Reefer beginning of next year. Issue is daughter #2 is coming in March and these girls aren’t cheap even when they’re young!

WOW! Thanks so much for reading the whole thread and for following along!

You definitely won’t be disappointed with a Red Sea.

I only have 1 daughter, I’m sure 2 will be be a handful, AND a wonderful blessing!

Please feel free to ask questions as you get prepared.

Oh, and when is #2 due?

Weekly testing done!

1.026
77 deg

Alk 7.8 gonna start dosing a bit more weekly. I want it around 8.3 ish and stable for a while.

PO4 0. I have cut back on nopox from 10 to 5 ml daily. I at least want a reading!

NO3 12, up from 8 last week. Perhaps from cutting back on the nopox?

Also last week I added 2 more liters of Seachem matrix/denitrate.

I now have 6 liters in the sump.

The macro algae reactor that I am doing my experiment with (trying to grow GHA vs chaeto) looks gross inside!

I will open it up soon and see what’s in there.

Next post.........

I have cyano growing on some rocks and it looks terrible.

I also have diatoms in the front left.

It all looks terrible.

I have flow EVERYWHERE with the 2 gyres.

And aiptasia.

Just a bit bummed right now as I have really been looking forward to adding coral in a big way soon as well as some sps.

Gotta get it all fixed first.

Any thoughts, suggestions, questions are welcome.

Constructive criticism as well please.

I have chemiclean on hand for the cyano. I used it regularly scheduled on my prior tank per a coral geniuses recommendation.

Perhaps that to get the cyano under control and running the skimmer wide open and just draining back into the tank for a few days (must do with chemiclean) will get my PO4 up.

I know starting with total clean rock is tough and has challenges but I don’t think this is related.

I’m just trying to keep things from getting out of control the first year.

Sigh.......

I'm amazed you have no PO4 especially with dry rock. Might want to dose some till you can get them up naturally??

Well, I had PO4 up until 6 weeks ago. It was always around .01-.05 for months.

I’m all for dosing some if I need to. But I would rather not if I don’t have to if that makes sense.

What if I shut off the skimmer for half the day and stop nopox all together.

This is all uncharted territory for me and I don’t want to mess things up.

What do you think?

Also I feed 1/4 sheet of nori, 2 small doses of pellets via auto feeder, and a cube of mysis / homemade food daily.

I would try stopping NoPox and skimming more I think. Doesn't skimming remove NO3? I know when I turned my skimmer to really dry I got NO3 in my tank.

Skimmer will remove organics that could otherwise break down to NO3. If you wanted you could pull the cup only to preserve the gas exchange and let those organics decay. I tried that for a week or so recently and it seemed to help stop the plummet. I have not used NoPox

So I removed my algae reactor experiment since I’m reading 0 PO4 for the past few weeks.

It was covered with cyano inside.

So I removed all my rocks with cyano and cleaned them.

Let’s see what this week holds.

Just ordered a bottle of Seachem Flourish to start getting my phosphates up.

Thanks @Fudsey.

I don’t want to risk waiting so I’m going to dose phosphates.

My understanding is you need phosphates in order to lower nitrates.

Perhaps that’s why my nitrates are creeping up again, I’m out of phosphates?
